shoelessjoelives
I am sure all pro athletes have CPA's who are all aware of the loopholes. Thought I just saw Cliff Lee on the sideline at the LSU-Arkansas game in Little Rock.
mellon
Did you see Cliff Lee on the field today with the Arkansas cheerleders against LSU giving a big Razorback cheer?
shoelessjoelives
ESPN says the Rangers are on the verge of making an offer to Lee............maybe today. Hold you breath and see how this goes. Still would have to wait on the Yankee offer that would be coming soon after once they see what the Rangers do. Need a few verses of the Kenny Rogers hit, remember "you got to know when to hold em', know when to fold em', know when to walk away, know when to run..............never count your money before the dealin's done". I still like the verse that goes something like this........"Let's go Rangers !"
Stoney
Have seen reports that the Rangers are asking the Royals about Zack Grienke? Has 2 years left on his contract, young (27) and a former Cy Young winner. Has had issues in the past with social disorders. Would the asking price of a Martin Perez or Tanner Schepper, a big league arm or 2 ( Derek Holland?) and more prospects be worth it? What about this? To replace Lee, they promote from within. Neftali Feliz, Alexi Ogando, Scott Feldman could make the rotation. Feliz moving up would leave a hole at closer that IDK Franky can fill.
shoelessjoelives
Tanner Schepper to me is a big risk right now.
Stoney
Evan Grant has this scenario. http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives...will-someb.html Here's the bet: The Rangers will let Lee walk, opting not to play a salary in the $20-23 million range. They will instead bite down hard on Kansas City's Zack Greinke. He will end up in Texas for a package of Martin Perez, Engel Belre, Luis Sardinas and one more minor league prospect yet to be determined. The Yankees will end up with Lee. The Rangers will use the money saved to add a better hitting option such as Carl Crawford or Paul Konerko
shoelessjoelives
I don't like Grant's plan. Of course the last time Grant had a better plan that involved Lee was over a century ago in that little Civil War.
Stoney
Whats going on with the Nationals? Sign Werth for7/$120m. Supposedly are offering Lee a 7 year deal. Is that were all the stimulus money went?
mellon
^ :hmm: The Rangers sure don't want to mortgage the farm for one player. Getting Grienke and Crawford/Konerko sounds real good, but with the contract Werth signed that could sure mess things up.
cheaptrick77
Do not, do not, DO NOT trade Martin Perez

shoelessjoelives
Yankees are supposedly ready to offer Cliff Lee a 6 year deal worth $140-150 million dollars. See how this shakes out during the day.
goldandwhite
I just can't help but think of the Barry Zito deal when that much money and years are offered to a 32 year old pitcher. The Yankees could survive such a bust much better than the Rangers could. With Lee having a back problem as recently as last season, it would be a big gamble for the Rangers to match an offer by the Yankees.
h-town12
Getting Grienke AND Crawford would be huge.
Panther89
If I'm Cliff Lee, I would try to stay with the Texas Rangers. Going to the New York Yankees is a bad idea. After hearing about how the Yankee fans treated his wife, I would tell the Yankees to go kiss my ###. There ain't no price you can put on that situation, and plus, if he does consider an offer from NY, it would be a slap in the face of his wife. Ogando and Feliz will remain in the bullpen (Rangers already disscused this, and said thats where they fit best). Its ALOT of young talent to give up, but Grienke is a proven winner. I honestly think even if they DO get Lee back, they still go after Grienke. They also feel like the Royals demands will slowly dwindle. We'll see.... shoelessjoelives
Yankees are going to throw their money around because they still have that egg sandwich all over their face that the Rangers left there in the ALCS last year.

Mavgrad98
The Rangers are flying back to Arkansas for a 3rd time today to talk with Lee and his agent. Im guessing they have a new offer since the Yankees have added a 7th year to their offer. This is getting better than the Favre saga! :whome:
slinky16
No way will the Rangers out bid the Yankees, especially since the RedSox picked up Crawford. The only chance we got is if Cliff Lee is willing to take a lesser deal to play in Texas. Otherwise, pick up Pettitte and go get Greinke. Greinke Wilson Lewis Pettitte Hunter I think pretty dang good.
HitEmHarder
Curious - is 7 years for a 32 year old pitcher a good idea? The older he gets, the more likely that arm could go...
shoelessjoelives
Every guy is different. Some last longer than others.....obviously. You can't predict this. This is why baseball is the worlds best sport....IMHO.
HitEmHarder
True, but do you mortgage the team like that? I mean I would love to see Lee stay a Ranger and keep him away from the Yanks.
eastx4u
I would love to keep Lee, but if we give him want he is asking for that is going to set us up for failure. Look what happened when we signed A-rod to that deal, it took us almost a decade to recover from that bonehead move.
underarmor8
Body wise I would rather take my chances on a guy like Lee over a guy like CC. I think Lee can stay healthier but you cant predict that stuff. I hope he wants to play in Texas. If not, we need to fold and turn our attention elsewhere.
