easttexan
The Paris News Brent Wilburn DETROIT — Lance Connot has been hired as the athletic director/head football coach at Detroit High School. The hire was made official during a special school board meeting this past week. He replaces former head football coach Stuart Proctor, who has been reassigned to other duties within the school district. In his position as athletic director, Connot replaces longtime athletic director Mike Barley. Barley, who has been employed by Detroit ISD since 1991, will remain employed at the school as head baseball coach. "We decided as a district to combine the head football coach and athletic director positions, which is the way it's done in most school districts," Detroit ISD Superintendent Steve Drummond said. "It hasn't been done like that in Detroit in a while, so we decided to combine them." Connot, who turns 24 in May, has been an assistant football coach at Detroit for the past two years and was defensive coordinator in 2010. "It feels really good to have these responsibilities and duties at this young age," Connot said. "It's a big compliment to the hard work I've been putting in, and it's good to see my hard work pay off." Connot is a native of the Red River Valley area. He graduated from Prairiland High School, and his father Rick is head baseball coach and an assistant football coach at Prairiland. Now, he's ready to continue his career with his promotion on the Detroit High School campus. "I've learned some good things from other coaches here, and I learned more about the community our kids come from," Lance Connot said. "Detroit is a tight-knit community, and I'm looking forward to the support I will get from them." Proctor was head coach of the Eagles for two seasons. He was 4-17 in two seasons as head coach but guided them to the playoffs this past season, which was their first playoff berth since 1999. Drummond also confirmed the resignation of head basketball coach Dwight McCowan, who just completed his first year as head coach at Detroit. A decision on the future of that position likely will be decided at the next school board meeting on March 21. *Article published by The Paris News

KarnackKing
Apparently not. Would have liked an AD job at 24. I'm sure I would have screwed up everything. This kid needs a lot of prayers. How did Detroit decide on this? Was this their only option?
BillyClydePuckett
Good luck Coach. I hope that Detroit will give him a chance to give the program some much needed stability. Changing Coaches every two years is a major disservice to the kids.
Coach4Christ
I agree with Coach Reid. It is common nowadays for schools to hire young coaches for less money. Anson HS just hired a Head Coach/AD...he is 23. When Coach Lavvorn was hired at Dallas First Baptist, he was 23. Good Luck to this young man, and to Detroit ISD as well. blesseddaily
Many times it is a matter of economics...small 1A schools don't have the luxury of hiring an experienced coach that has been a proven winner. Many times their only options are young coaches trying to get that first head coaching job...Best of luck to the young man, he obviously has worked hard to get his first shot at guiding a program. Wish him the best of luck.

73tigers
sho nuff........... This guys doing a good job. Young is not always bad in the coaching world. My observation from a distance was that Detroit was hiring "experienced" coaches that really didn't want to be there. As a result, they didn't do a good job with the kids and were looking for the first opportunity out. Coach Connot being from the area knew there wasn't a mall or McDonalds around the corner. He will do well with the Detroit program. Detroit almost always 2 or 3 good athletes, at the 1A level you can build a team around them. Also, has a lot of community support for the school. Guitarman
I think he will do a great job. It is so hard to find a Coach that will invest in the kids and program in 1A schools.
coach5076
He has done a great job. He has a senior and junior class of football players that have bought into the program since they were freshmen and 8th graders. Basketball no longer rules the roost. He has assembled a staff that is passionate about winning and will do whatever to make sure that happens. Good luck to the Eagles on the rest of their season. sportsstud
and the is this a joke question at the beginning of this thread should be attributed to the poster, not the coach. Now I know not to take anything KK says seriously.
