TbearTebow Posted January 11, 2012 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I am a new member to Smoaky but I have surfed this website for a few years now. After speaking to a few people last night here in Timpson I have decided to voice my opinion about our hiring of a new coach. I have a "dog in this fight" as the saying goes on here and they are my sons. I have two of them and I am a little more concerned about this hire than usual because this man will coach them. I am hoping Mr. Johnson is keeping in mind to try and find the best man for our kids here in Timpson and not just the next Coach. I think Timpson has a lot to offer and is a great place and I think there is a special coach out there for our community if we just do our best to seek them out. I don't like the idea of us "Giving some guy a shot" because he deserves it. This position here is better than that and I think we should all here in Timpson view it that way. I respect coaches and love the men that coached me, but with that I disagree with the idea of our job here being given to someone that "deserves a shot" !!! I am sure there is an experienced coach that wants to be in Timpson that knows how to turn our athletic program around in all of our sports. Look at Spring Hill and Bullard for example and them hiring good coordinators from the Dallas area. Lets find not only a great coach, but a great man and leader for our kids and school. TbearTebow Posted January 11, 2012 Author Share Posted January 11, 2012 It's not who, it's what. Do our due diligence in finding the best coach we can for our kids in Timpson. It seems to me that there are great coaches out there if we just do the things necessary to find them and I think our kids and our school system is worth that much. There have been coaches hired that have had an amazing impact on the school and communities - I want us to get this hiring right and find one of those! jackets85 Posted January 12, 2012 Share Posted January 12, 2012 guy Guys finding a good coach is very important and I can tell you that you have already taken a giant step forward by hiring coach meeker as your baseball coach. you can rest assured you have one of the best and most qualified coaches in East Texas. If your kids Listen and work their tails off he will take them as far as they want to go. Take advantage of what he teaches put it to good use and your kids will go far. Â Â I am in Mt. Enterprise and have family in Timpson and the name they keep hearing is former Carthage Coach Mike Bickham. He is an asst in Rusk now I believe. Praying for the right choice to be made by our administration and board. Â Â Â With all the successful teams around Timpson, you would think that somebody from those staffs would be a fit. If it was me, I'd step out on Hwy 59, and go north about 7 miles first. Speak with the staff from the 1a State Champs. I would then travel back down south on 59 around 15 miles to Garrison, and speak with their staff. If still nothing, hit up Alto, Arp, and all the successful surrounding areas and speak with interested staff. Then again, that makes WAY too much sense for a place like Timpson.
