^ you got it we have all sinned from our first breath and in need of the savior, but for those who do not know the law like children they are saved by Gods grace and mercy.

Ezekiel 18 should be enough to show that God doesn't even believe in original sin.....here are His Words on the matter:

18 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 "What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'? 3 As I live, declares the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.

5 "If a man is righteous and does what is just and right— 6 if he does not eat upon the mountains or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor's wife or approach a woman in her time of menstrual impurity, 7 does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment, 8 does not lend at interest or take any profit, withholds his hand from injustice, executes true justice between man and man, 9 walks in my statutes, and keeps my rules by acting faithfully—he is righteous; he shall surely live, declares the Lord God.

10 "If he fathers a son who is violent, a shedder of blood, who does any of these things 11 (though he himself did none of these things), who even eats upon the mountains, defiles his neighbor's wife, 12 oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not restore the pledge, lifts up his eyes to the idols, commits abomination, 13 lends at interest, and takes profit; shall he then live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon himself.

14 "Now suppose this man fathers a son who sees all the sins that his father has done; he sees, and does not do likewise: 15 he does not eat upon the mountains or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor's wife, 16 does not oppress anyone, exacts no pledge, commits no robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment, 17 withholds his hand from iniquity, takes no interest or profit, obeys my rules, and walks in my statutes; he shall not die for his father's iniquity; he shall surely live. 18 As for his father, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother, and did what is not good among his people, behold, he shall die for his iniquity.

19 "Yet you say, 'Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?' When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live. 20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

21 "But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? 24 But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.

25 "Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? 26 When a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it; for the injustice that he has done he shall die. 27 Again, when a wicked person turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he shall save his life. 28 Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 29 Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?

30 "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live."

Yes, everyman is held accountable for thier own sins and just becuase ones parents was a drunk does not mean that God will punish the children for the sins of the father (ie the thinking that my dad is a drunk so I must be one too or that I will be punished by God for my fathers sin of ______) is what is being refuted. Now the reason why we sin in the first place is becuase we are sinners. Why does a bird fly? Becuase it is in the birds nature to fly. Why do we sin? becuase it is our nature to sin and becuase of Original Sin is why Christ had to be born a virgin becuase the sin of Adam is in all men. This is for any outside reader.... Now is Original Sin a deal breaker for salvation? I do not think so, but is believing that you are a sinner unworthy of God and uncapable of earning salvation apart from faith in Jesus (as the) Christ is a must.

I don't think any child has sinned since their first breath regardless. Christ taught in Matthew 18:3-5 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven." "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoso shall receive one such child in my name receiveth me."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that all of us will sin no matter what so when we are born we will sin in our lives no matter what.

So this is my first post, and I was hoping someone could help me understand some things about the Bible.

I'm pretty young so I'm not that knowledgable about it, but I wanted to know if the whole thing is true?

Like Noah's Ark and everything else?

I saw a site that quoted a theologian and religious scholar and he said some parts weren't true.

What's the answer? Thanks, God bless!

a maker created you. otherwise, knowbody knows.

I'd LOVE to see you back that up with scripture....Sin is an act that we commit...when we take our first breath, which sin are we actually committing??? Is the act of breathing a sin?? If so, we are all doomed anyway....

We sin because we are stubborn, or lust driven, and refuse to bow to the Will of God...Why do we sin?? James answered that very succinctly.....

James 4: 1 - 3

4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

We sin because we were given free will by God, and we then choose to disobey him due to our own lusts and passions, or we fall to Satan's snares...we are not born sinners...we choose to become sinners....and not a single one of us has the inner strength to make the choice not to sin because we are driven by the passions and lusts described above, or we are incapable of fighting off Satan's temptations....IF we were born with sin staining our souls, then Ezekiel is teaching a lie, because he is teaching that the sins of our fathers do NOT carry over to us....IF we are born with Adam's sin staining our souls, then Ezekiel is a liar and there is a major contradiction in the Word.....which there is NOT, because we are not born with Adam's sin on our souls anymore than we are born with the sins of our own fathers on our souls.....

Exactly...IF we are to become as little children in order to enter the Kingdom, and IF we are born with Adam's sin staining our souls, then this passage means that we can enter the Kingdom with sin staining our souls....there are PLENTY of scriptures that say THAT is not possible....THAT'S the very reason we MUST have the Grace and forgiveness of God and be washed in the Blood of His Son, so that our souls can be cleansed and we can enter the Kingdom.....

Exactly...we are not born with sin staining our souls...we choose to enter that state when we commit our first sin....and not a single one of us has the strength to avoid sin....Adam and Eve had ONE law to follow, and they couldn't even do that.....

Yet, they had to commit that sin, otherwise we would never be here. The earth would have kept on spinning, and things outside of the Garden would have kept happening. The great thing is, God did send His only Begotten Son to save us.

  • 2 weeks later...

Read Romans chapter 6 it will enlighten alot of these questions. Yes we are under grace but DO NOT have to sin any longer once we've came to the knowledge and understanding. Another scripture "let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" how can we mortify the deeds of the body if we continue in sin?

Romans 5:12 Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon ALL men, for that all have sinned:

13 For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, EVEN over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adams transgression, who IS the figure of him to come.

There you go and there's some more on there, that's really self explanatory.

That's true to a degree, however I don't believe that a child under the age of understanding is accountable for sin. That brings up infant baptism which was not widely practiced in the Christian Church until after the 3rd Century. While Christ was anointed as a child at the temple, He was not baptized until He was 30.

I agree only God knows when a child or teenager has had the opportunity to accept Christ.

lol...that doesn't say we are "born in sin".....unless you are in agreement that "born in sin" means we are born into a sinful world.....nowhere in that verse can you get the idea that we are born with sin staining our souls....and IF it does teach that (which it doesn't), then it is a contradiction of Ezekiel 18, and that means that the Bible is NOT inerrant....since the Bible IS inerrant, then it must not be teaching that we are born with sin staining our souls.....

Death passed from adam to Moses and even to those that did not sin after adams transgression. But if we are not born sinners then how did death by sin pass over to men who haven't sinned? Which it says in the scripture. And also read in another place where u said that we don't have the power to overcome sin? Read Romans 6:1-3 and let that sink in. How can we mortify the deeds of the body and become overcomers if we continue to sin? "Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus".
