PGHawkfan
Don't know it was necessarily the best but; the 60's were definitely the most diverse. I mean, you had everything from the Beach Boys to Black Sabbath. Country was in the begining stages of Outlaw with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Popular Music went from bouncy beach music to the Beatles followed by the hippie culture. Metal was basically born in the sixties with bands like Zeppelin, The yardbirds, Cream, & Black Sabbath. I wasn't even born until '69 but; the music from the 60's was & is awesome. MUSTANGMANIA
70'S Music still heads up every playlist i have. Still with the 80s hair bands & metal bands & rap music & new wave & country music becoming cool (although 70s country music is better)...it could be a toss up. It's almost a toss up between the 60s and the 70s in my mind. The 60s really got it going and the 70s is where the great music peaked. It's mostly been downhill since then
DaveTV1
The 60's set the standard for what the 70's brought us. With the changes that The Beatles made with their sound, I would be almost give it to the 60's hands down. However as a decade as a whole, I have to go with the 70's. The 70's seemed to capture every genre possible, and while there are a few bad songs from the 70's, they don't make me cringe as many of the tunes from the 60's, 80's, 90's, 00's, and currently do today. coltsboy
Mid 60's through mid-70's in my mind. The early 90's were good, and this current era of "music" just makes me ill.
Stoney
I feel kinda jealous of the old guys that were able to experience the 60s/70s music scene. All we got was Chumbawamba and Britney Spears, and he/she Justin Bieber.

partsman66
Even though th 60's and 70's might have started the metal movement I don't think it really got rolling until the 80's.
cheaptrick77
I respectfully disagree with you, partsman66 :) Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, etc., had the Metal ball rolling long before the 80s began... The 70's had much good, but it also had disco.:( Disco > Rap/HipHop ... no?
