Aggies: No Intention of Playing Horns

If the Horns were Big Brother their panties wouldn't get in a wad if little brother doesn't want to play them.

Why are you guys all upset that the Ags don't need you? Like you guys say constantly on every message board and radio and newspaper; the Ags are not a rival and you don't need the Ags but the Ags need the Horns. If that was true; you guys would be excited that the game is not being played. It is what you guys shouted from the roof tops 2 years ago. Guess the realization has hit you that you are not big brother but a political bully who misplayed their hand and are still being forced to live with those mishaps.

It's about how Aggies have been beating their chests and screaming "anytime, anywhere" for the past year and a half.

Aggy was never our rival, and chose to leave our conference and our protective wing. After all we did for them....we had a deal to take them to the PAC12, but they turned it down out of spite. We started the groundbreaking LHN and offered them a share of it, and they turned us down.

They don't deserve to play us.

Let them be stuck playing LSU every year while we play Tech, Baylor, and TCU.

HOOK'EM HORNS!!!

Oh the spin coming out of Austin is hilarious. When the Horns cancelled the series it was because the Aggies betrayed the state, the conference and the rivalry and good riddance. Now that the Horns NEED this game more than the Ags do; it is cowardly of the Ags to ignore.

The Horns had their chance and they said rivalry was nonexistence and didn't need the Ags and so the Ags said ok and moved on.

Good move by A&M!!

Please show me anywhere anyone connected with the University of Texas at Austin Athletic department or administration has said they wanted to continue the series! There have been individuals on this board (LonghornFan) and connected to the both schools (McCombs for Texas) that have held from Day 1 they want the series to continue. I have seen no change in the position of the University. Personaly, my position has not changed.

The question has not been posed to the new Texas AD. The writer wondered if there would be a change in the position of Texas with the change in ADs. But he contacted A&M and an Assistant Athletic Director commented the series was over, but the teams could meet in the post season.

Yes Texas had a chance to continue the rivalry. You are correct. But Texas was unwilling to break contracts with other schools to accommodate A&M. Of all schools, I would have thought A&M would have understood the value of one's word and signature.

People want everything too exact these days....

"We hope to play them again in a BCS bowl or playoff game at some point,"

It's implied. They 'hope to play in a bowl game', but you while you're wanting an exact quote the other way, notice there is also NO mention of playing during the regular season.

Why is it implied? Everyone knows that the schools aren't playing right now during the regular season. The only other option is the bowl season.

Why is it implied? Didn't you answer that within your question?

Seeing how everyone knows the schools aren't playing right now during the regular season, why else make this comment.

Because some goofy reporter asked him since Dodds is gone. You are looking way more into it than it should be. Implying isn't logical

When did they say they want to play?

I am not sure if the Office of the President of Texas A&M at College Station meets the threshhold of being official. The link is below and the following is a vote by President Bowtie:

"3. How will this affect Texas A&M’s historic rivalry with the Longhorns?

The SEC has a long history of encouraging cross‑conference rivalries such as those between Florida and Florida State, Clemson and South Carolina, and Georgia Tech and Georgia.

President Loftin and Texas A&M Athletics Director Bill Byrne have repeatedly made it clear that Texas A&M would like to continue its rivalry against the University of Texas, which began in 1894, and SEC Commissioner Mike Slive has said that he favors continuing the traditional Aggie-Longhorn game around Thanksgiving.

In addition, Bill Byrne has stated that he would like to continue the Lone Star Showdown between Texas A&M and the University of Texas that compares the universities’ records in all varsity sports, which he introduced about eight years ago." - September 30, 2011

Gotta agree with the Aggies here. From what I read it basically says "We still hope to play them in a post season game, but we aren't going to just publicly beg them to play us anymore. We have other things to worry about than playing Texas."

Yep

So let's see, you yourself have stated that no one from Texas has actually said anything about renewing the rivlary. Yet officials in College Station still felt the need to be the ones to bring it up.

Sooo, who's in who's head again???

You 2 should quit thinking about each other. If you could focus on something other than each other we would be looking at 17-0 and NC dreams for the 2 major schools of Texas rather than Cotton Bowl dreams.

Again, they didn't bring it up. Jason Cook did not call a press conference to announce this.

Lobo, with all due respect to Mavgrad99, ask him how good Ole Miss is before you go saying having the Rebels on the schedule isn't dangerous year in and year out. Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss alone are four tough weeks for the Aggies not to mention when they play Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri and Florida (on most occasions) during the rotation. Don't talk to me about just this year if you're going to talk about the norm. Yeah, don't forget Texas drove out Missouri too and lost some of its bragging rights when it comes to the Big 12's academic success. You can't tell us with a straight face Texas faces anything anywhere close to this every wk. If Arkansas and Tennessee get back to where they used to be, the top league in the nation simply continues to get better. UT likes to bring about coaching changes in the middle of the year and disrespect a man who got them a title, and the ploy still doesn't work out.

Yeah, don't forget Texas drove out Missouri too

They have only played two of those teams so far in their 2 seasons in the SEC. (my bad forgot about Florida)

Missouri did not leave because of Texas. They left because they feared that the Big 12 would not restabalize like it has managed too.
