Wow!!! You are exactly correct!!! Hope you don't mind if I borrow that!!!!

You outta see the other dozen or so Rules .... Although I've been in education now about four decades, my first degree was in Law Enforcement & Police Science, with a special emphasis on Public Administration. Now you might think that regardless of where they do their public administrating, administrators would be administrators. Yet I found that not to be the precise case. As a result, this non-educational executive training provided (or cursed, depending on your perspective) me with a little bit different slant on school administration and decision making. Of course, as time wore on, I found that medical science provided no innoculation against those considered at-risk to the effects of exposure to educational administrative behavior and, therefore, one would correctly assume that long ago I would have succumbed to malady and/or conversion - which I am sure I have.

Very early in my schooling experience, I realized I was not very well prepared to deal with the teaching profession. This realization came, not from classroom behavior, but trying to understand exactly why a particular decision was arrived at and how it came to be made. Apparently, I was not blessed with the intelligence to understand such matters. All I knew was that I saw many of my commrades climbing over one another to become administrators and I felt left out because I realized that until I could understand the administrative decision-making process, I could never join them at the top of the heap.
Therefore, as I began my second decade in the profession, I was determined to make a concerted effort to understand this phenomenon. I resolved that whenever I observed a decision made, I would decide why it was made, place it in a category, and write it down for future consultation. Then, as each decision was made, I would see if it fit into a previous category - if it did not, I would create a new category. To my amazement, basically all decisions fell into just a dozen or so categories, some more common than others.

It's a sad day for Winona. Not only a great coach, but a superior teacher and a class act. The program has more playoff teams and more teams one blip from the playoffs than it's had in years. Football team went to playoffs for first time in almost 2 decades. After having to rebuild the entire staff this year (not his choice), he had a team with significantly inferior talent and experience from the year before miss the playoffs by one game. Took team to playoffs with a QB who hadn't really taken a snap before. The year before Evans became Head Coach, the kids were getting their brains beat out and sitting on their helmets on the sideline by the time the 4th quarter came around, and most of the crowd was gone after the band played at halftime. In Evans' first year, they were still getting beaten but the crowds were sticking around because the kids were giving 100% until the final whistle. Then the next year, playoffs. We all knew this last year was rebuilding and then starting over with only 1 assistant coach from the year before it was an even bigger challenge. Still, the team was one game from playoffs.

It's been a good year for Winona athletics, the best its been in years, but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth if I'm being honest. Apparently raising the level of the program, improving the discipline, all while being the AD/HFC and still teaching and being an overall class act is not what they are looking for. The only man I know that might have a higher level of integrity than Scott Evans has is C.R. Evans, his father, the Mayor of Overton and one of the classiest guys on the planet.

Scott Evans will be much better off, but Winona will not be.

There's a funny thing about this business that I have noticed over the years ... very seldom have I seen a coach screwed over that he didn't end up better off somewhere else ... from experience, the toughest thing is letting it go - by that I mean it is hard to get rid of the bad taste in your mouth because it is human nature to want to exact some type of revenge for the screwing ... from all appearances, Coach Evans is a good man and has done a good job at a very tough place ... he WILL land on his feet AND he will continue to be a good man and continue to do a good job when the dust settles and he gets over the shock ... as far as his old employers go ... they will probably find some reaping and sowing in the works ... like most things, community power structures tend to evolve and change ... then, who knows ...

Absolutely right, Coach Evans WILL wind up in a better spot. But that does not take away the hurt he and his family are feeling right now. Trust me I have been there, and I have friends going through it right now. It is a crazy business.

I just do not know how people that do things like this can sleep at night. They are all smug and self righteous that they are doing everything "for the kids" while they are REALLY only serving their own selfish agenda.

If you are one of those in Winoa, Buffalo, or any of the dozens of other schools that think it is okay to screw with good peoples lives for no good reason I am only comforted by the fact that at some point in this life or surely the next you will be held accountable for your actions.

There's an old coaching adage that says "There's two kinds of coaches ... those that's been fired ... and those who are gonna be fired" ... that doesn't make it right or fair but it is what it is ... most anyone who have coached, or ever will coach, will have these experiences, including BCP and me ... The buzz word in the past decade or so is "we're doing it for the kids" ... it has become so trite that every time I hear it a red flag goes up and alarm bells ring ... Why? Because that has become the excuse for everybody to do something to further their agenda ... using kids to remake the system in their own image for their own benefit ... my experience has been that these people have no trouble sleeping at night because they have no conscience - they forfeited that long ago for greed ... be it for money or for power ... to them the ends always justifies the means ... but there is another old coaching adage that says "There never was a horse that couldn't be rode and never was a cowboy who couldn't be throwed" ... and one day the tables will be turned ... because what we also know is "It can be a short walk from the throne to the outhouse" ... and life has a way of evening out.

New Sup. has an agenda. She got rid of all stability, she got rid of principals to the director of transportantion. Coach Evan was the last person left for her to push out. Oh... why did coach Kincade get seen down to the JH in Rusk? Things are not right in Winona, and if you really want to learn some interesting tid bits, do a little research on the the superintendent. Why did she end up working out of a closet at her last school?

Any word where Evans is going? I heard he might be trying to get into administration (principal).

He'd be welcome back in Overton with open arms, but there's no openings here. Nevertheless, I envy any program with him at the helm.

Tragic situation at Small Schools! The Boards are Run by Mostly uneducated people with a reason for being on the boards. Nobody wants to be on them so people with there own agenda gets on there and run off good people. Now to be honest i dont know this situation but i know this Winona has been terrible since Reagan was Pres... And this guy had them winning. We will see if it was a good move

Very true statement.

Even more how can a person with a clouded history like this superintendent lead a charge to rid a community like Winona of leaders like Coach Evans. He has instilled discipline and character in to a program that was lacking in that area. Under his leadership Winona has had more success throughout the program that it has had in the last few years and with less talent. I applaud Coach Evans for what he has done for the school and community of Winona.
