Not sure the exact numbers but I believe they only graduated 6 off the football team.

Where the former AD/HC is going? I'm not real sure.

Who ever get the job will be deep in talent for the next 5 or 6 years depending on the move in's and out's..

Beardad said every game how good they were and how the would surprise everybody and I am sure that you felt that about your hometown team but bottom line is they went 1-9 had no jv team and I think 1 jr high team I think. So not much coming up it looks like. And I think the overall population of Dekalb is going down judging by the drop in enrollment.

DeKalb is not and will not be "deep in talent" any time soon. The kids that do play football at DeKalb are mostly somewhat undersized, but work and play as hard as any kids around. They give their all from whistle to whistle, and I look for them to be competitive. After a 1-9 season, our goal will be to improve daily. Hopefully we can get an AD/Football Coach in here who can help us do that.

Really think if they can get their football numbers up they will be ok in a couple of years. I've seen some film on them from the previous 3 years and just think lack of depth has really been a problem. Not sure the reasons for the low turnout though.

I agree that the numbers are down, we had several athletes that were in the stands last year.

The "deep inTalent" issue, the talent is at school. not all of them have made it on the field. the 7th thru 5 grade classes have more boys than any class in the previous 5 years. those boys are very athletic.

the in coming Junior class has several talented boys along with the sophmore class (if they all come out) the in coming freshman have some talent. the projection for the in coming 8th grade is they will go 8-0 and once again be the district champs. the incoming 7th grade boys have a load of talent also.

Depth will always be a issue in small schools, the hope is the new casino and resort they are building across the red river could bring in a few more families.

i wish the best of luck to who ever comes in and look for the return of the bears into play off form..

I like Buddy Ray, and he is a good coach, but at this point, I am not sure that would be a good fit for DeKalb. Right now, DeKalb needs a coach that is full of spunk and ready to "recruit" athletes from within our school back to football. Even though our enrollment number has fallen to make us one of the smallest 3A schools in Texas, there is no good reason for us to have less than 30 kids out for football 9-12. I am not sure exactly what turned some of the kids off from football, but our new AD or football coach is going to have to be willing to sell himself and our program to these kids who aren't playing, and get our numbers back up to be successful. I know we have 3 or 4 pretty decent applicants so far, and I am hoping we get several more.

How is this not a hot topic? What's going on over in Dekalb? Any news?

i understand that the job opening was/is open for 10 days then the superintendent along with another will make a selection. I hope it is soon, 7 on 7 starts in less than two weeks now.. I've heard there were several good applicants, including BR...

I wonder if they're looking for someone with AD experience??? Or if they would be willing to go young??? Dekalb has potential, it'll just take the right fit.

I agree it will take the right fit, young or old, with or with out AD experience. Need one that is willing to build a relaitionship with the athlete's. they will work there tail off for the right person and have a good bit more athletes come out. the good thing is there are still a couple of coaches on staff they all respect and would run thru a wall for.

The potential is truely there, in the school, getting them all to buy in and get on the field is the trick.
