Parisian
Scores from Thursday's first round: Kennedale 4, Mexia 1 Abilene Wylie 2, Argyle 0 Ferris 3, China Spring 0 WF Hirschi 4, LaVega 2 Paris 3, Alvarado 0 According to TASCO preseason ratings, Argyle is No. 1 in state Class 4A, Alvarado No. 4 and Wylie No. 7. BTW, Argyle beat Alvarado, 2-1, last week. This tournament features the top 3 rated teams in Region 1 (Argyle-Alvarado-Wylie) and Nos. 4-5 from Region 2 (Ferris-Paris). Ferris and Paris both got max points Thursday. Kinda says to me that even TASCO doesn't have a real handle on the relative strengths of teams in new Class 4A. Parisian
Saturday's results: Championship: Ferris 1, Paris 0 (scored in final 12 minutes on free kick) 3rd Place: Kennedale beat WF Hirschi in a shootout 5th Place: #7 Abilene Wylie 5, #10 China Spring 0 7th Place: #1 Argyle 2, Mexia 0 9th Place: LaVega 3, #4 Alvarado 2 Paris got max points in both their prelim matches to earn a championship berth, according to the tournament's point system. Don't ask me to explain the remaining matchups for Saturday. The tournament had 4 of the state's preseason top 10 teams, yet a couple of unranked teams from Region 8 were paired in the final. I think it shows that this year's 4A state title is there for the taking, and that several Region 2 teams could be in the hunt.
DBQ1
This just shows that these rankings don't mean much especially with a brand new classification. Hopefully it will get better in the future with more to go by. Congratulations to both Ferris and Paris. Good showing for the region.
