I think the last couple down years took the MP site out of action! It was a cool idea and hope it gets brought back. MP did not participate in spring ball this year and started practice yesterday. Pads Friday and start scrimmages with LE next week followed by PG the following Friday. Looks like both scrimmages are in MP so maybe I can attend and see how they look!

Looks Like the district will be fairly competitive for the top four spots, But I want to hear some input from all the fans.

Who will win and what order do you think they will finish? I'm going Hallsville on top, but I'm a Homer so???

Texas High (Marshall hasnt proven they can beat the Tigers), Marshall (maybe the most talented but again have to get over the TH hump), Hallsville (dont think as good as TH or Marshall but should handle the others), Mt Pleasant (returning some good players, very good chance at taking the last playoff spot, could possibly compete with Hallsville).

I've been watching Hallsville practices and I think we will be competitive with everyone, but I'm thinking Marshall definitely has the speed edge. Texas High always seems to find a way to win, but I think we will take them this year. We only have about 12 seniors, so we are going to be a young team. This junior class never lost a game as junior high and freshmen, so they have something to prove, but I'm realistic there are some tough schools in this district. CAN"T WAIT to get it started!

5A school with 12 seniors?

Coach Duke is going all-in with the playoff talk this year. He's determined for the Lions to be the most well-conditioned team in the district, so we'll see how far we actually get. Heck, we just had a Midnight Madness practice at 12:01am yesterday. I don't see a district title yet, but with everything being revamped (new coordinators on both sides of the ball), we're going to at least try to snag our first playoff spot in what seems like forever. Or at least not be the team you guys have gotten used to seeing. We just might sneak up on some folks this year. :)

As far as who wins district, I agree it's going to be determined by the Marshall/T-High game. Since we're part of the I-30 side of the district, I'll take T-High in a close one.

There is no doubt that Texas High and Marshall will battle it out for the title. I hear buzz about a competitive Hallsville team and Greenville is claiming they are playoff bound as well. The fact is-everyone looks like a playoff team at the beginning of the season. Kids are rested and no one is banged up. I hear from friends from my former home in MP, that they believe no one will be able to handle their O-line this year. I think the rest of the district expects to steamroll Greenville, Pine Tree, and Sulphur. Should be a great one to watch.

I like how Marshall has looked so far in practice. Will know more when the pads come on friday, and after the intrasquad sat morning. I do know that opponents won't be able to line up and key on Cam Haller this year. We have 2 other rbs that are DEADLY. Passing game looks good so far, and the new Qb can tuck it and run if he needs to. Going to be a fun year to be a Maverick!

I'm not buying Hallsville or Greenville as a threat for playoffs. Everyone is undefeated at this point.

Curious why not Hallsville? They've been in the playoffs pretty consistently the last few years. And we all know texas high and marshall are the 2 favorites. Who are the other 2 you see for sure beating Hallsville?

Hallsville is in a rebuilding year and lost a majority of their key players and depth. I also think teams like Sulphur Springs and Mount Pleasant will be out of the cellar. Mount Pleasant is primed for a big year with every key contributor returning and ready to make a statement in their senior year. As far as Sulphur Springs, they are one year more mature and were just a few pieces away from competing with these teams. My prediction is 16-5A will be very different from the 15-5A of last season.

That's a pretty big statement . I haven't seen anyone in the district make a statement that bold.

Everyone has too many question marks to be claiming domination like that. Esp from a team that has struggled to score the last few seasons.

Got to agree with Mavchamp. Sulphur has one rough year and now everyone is going to "STEAMROLL" the wildcats. As for the Mt. Pleasant O-line, they were huge last year, but the tigers just barely escaped with a win at our stadium. The wildcats will have a more experienced squad and I think it will be a tough battle between these two teams. Far from a "STEAMROLL" victory for the Tigers.

I will have to admit I don't see Coach Owens losing to Mount Pleasant two years in a row. Just doesn't seem likely with his background.
