scottmyers39
Homer B. Johnson, hired back in 1948 as an assistant football coach under the legendary Jerry Sellers and oversaw the Garland ISD's growth, announced his retirement as the current Executive AD Tuesday (August 2). Johnson served as head football coach at GHS from 1958 to 1962 when he took over as fulltime AD. From what I have heard, there will be a community appreciation get-together October 28 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.
eagle34
I met Homer before the 84 season, my junior year at Lakeview. What a great man and ambassador for Garland. I was fortunate to spend some time with him. Loved hearing his stories about Bobby Boyd and some of the other greats from GISD. Even though he favored the Owls over the "new schools" he was always there for all of the GISD teams. He made everyone he met feel special. He was one of a kind and will be missed.
