The one word that can describe Longview’s feelings heading into Week 2 of the 2016 Texas high school football season. After a hard fought battle, that resulted in their first loss the season, against their arch rival from Lufkin, the Lobos move onto another arch rival…one that knocked them off less than a year ago. Longview and Marshall head to Maverick Stadium for the 106th meeting between the two long time foes. Despite winning 14 out of the previous 15 contests, the Lobos head into Marshall looking to prove that last season’s 28-25 setback was just a one year aberration. The Mavericks will be looking to right their ship from a disappointing opening season loss to the Red Raiders of Tyler Lee, which saw them grab just 117 yards of offense while giving up 527 yards. The Lobos and Mavericks first met back in 1909, at Brown Park in Marshall, where the two schools battled to a 0-0 draw on Thanksgiving day. The two teams have met every season since 1933, where the Mavericks had registered an 18-2-2 record against the Lobos prior to the year off in 1932. Since that year off in 1932, Longview has surged to a 56-24-3 record over their counterparts from Marshall. The real difference in the series began in 1969 when Jimmy Hill’s 34-yard field goal with only 19 seconds remaining in the game gave Longview a 17-16 victory and kickstarted a 19-game winning streak for the Lobos in the series. Since that game, Longview has knocked off Marshall by a 38-9-0 count. While the two teams both come in at 0-1 on the season, Longview will at least be feeling somewhat good about themselves after seeing 51 players suite up in their first varsity game. The Lobos and Panthers, a team returning almost their entire team, battled to a 21-21 draw into the fourth quarter before seeing the Panthers take advantage of a sack and a pass interference call to put away the young Longview squad. Marshall, another team returning almost all of their 2015 squad, came into the season with high expectations ahead of their contest against Tyler Lee. What occurred in their season opener fell extremely below those expectations, with the Mavericks never really getting things kicked off. Marshall will be looking to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2013. The Mavericks have only started 0-2 four times since the 2000 season. Longview, however, is looking to avoid just their second 0-2 start (2014) since 1963.WEEK TWO 11-6A SCHEDULE:Longview at MarshallJohn Tyler at EnnisMesquite vs GarlandMesquite Horn vs Dallas Skyline (Cotton Bowl)North Mesquite vs Garland Lakeview Centennial (Saturday/Cotton Bowl)Rockwall vs Rowlett (Saturday/Cotton Bowl)Rockwall Heath vs West Mesquite (Thursday)Tyler Lee at CorsicanaWEEK ONE 11-6A RESULTS:Longview 24 Lufkin 35John Tyler 45 Plano West 14Mesquite 31 Lake Highlands 26Mesquite Horn 46 McKinney Boyd 31North Mesquite 35 Arlington Sam Houston 10Rockwall 21 Highland Park 43Rockwall Heath 21 Wylie East 24Tyler Lee 34 Marshall 7DISTRICT 11-6A STANDINGS:1st. Longview ranked up 261 rushing yard while holding the Cowboys to 107 total yards. The win marked the third straight year the Lobos had knocked off the Cowboys. In 1983, Fort Worth Eastern Hills rolled up 445 total yards to shock the Lobos, 26-15. The loss for Longview was the first loss during a season opener in 20 years. Longview’s Charles Smith and Joe Johnson were the only markers the Lobos could muster. In 1988, North Mesquite jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter but Longview attempted to make a comeback. But Steve Boyette was too much for the Lobos as he marched for three touchdowns and 134 yards on the night. In 1994, Isiah Stoker grabbed two touchdowns on the night and Chris Butcher added the other markers the Lobos held off the Lions, 20-13, in Paul Tyson Stadium. The win improved Longview to 6-0 all-time over the Lions. In 2006, despite having the lead the entire night, the Lobos saw the #1 ranked West Monroe Rebels escape Independence Stadium with a 19-15 victory in a defensive affair. Zach Decker’s field goal in the 3rd quarter gave Longview the lead 15-13 until under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Don Brown punched a touchdown in for the Rebels from 3 yards out. The win ended Longview’s 20 game regular season winning streak. The loss came despite Longview holding a 239 to 152 yards advantage on the day.

Based on what I saw tonight.....

No..... Based on what I DIDN'T see tonight......

Longview can name their score. I don't even know where to begin.

Offense looked like zombies out there.

And Amie gashed our defense at an eye-popping rate.

Lobo offense and defense is light years better than Lee's. We are in trouble.

Not just for this game......but for the whole season unless some things either come together or change. 😬😬😬😬

JT fan said it. We looked unprepared.

I expected the offense to struggle. But that wasn't struggling. It was lostness.

But this was same defense as last year except more experienced. Was suppose to be our strength. They got completely ran over.

Bright spot of the game? We have an OK punter.

Back to the drawing board.

So what happened in Tyler? Just horrible from every stand point??

Smh, man idk even know where to start. The Wickware kid(Rb) from Lee punished the Mavs on the ground all night!!! The Mavs didn't tackle well at all. Their d-line, which is undersized got blown away by Lee's o-line all night. Ok, then there was the offense. It looked like they just started practicing last week. The QB and the receivers weren't on the same page. I couldn't tell if the receivers ran the wrong routes or if the QB just overthrew. Either way it happened all night. They only completed short and intermediate passes. They did run the ball somewhat effectively in the first quarter or so but Lee tightened up on that real quick and trust me, Lee is not great by any means. They made Lee look like state Champs. Amie from Lee had tons of time to throw the ball and he even killed them with his feet and I don't consider him a true dual threat QB. Marshall gave up the big play all night. Deep pass, 30/40/50/60 yard runs, you name it. Longview by a whole lot!!! Marshall has no size by the way which doesn't help against Lv.

I hope you guys can get it turned around soon. I had you guys going toe to toe with Lee.

There was nothing fancy about the Lee game.... they had a running game plan and stayed with it, Lee just pounded it all night long along with some mixed passing plays. Marshall front 4 was pushed back all night. I guarantee when King sees this tape he is going to lick his chops with his power running game. As noted Lee isn't Longview by a mile, Longview in this one

I'll say this.

If Marshall can covert on 3rd and 4th downs, which doesn't seem like much of a challenge against our defense these days, we're not winning this.

Offense, Only complaint is the passing game is aggravating mainly because we're much better than what we showed tonight. Surely it was first game jitters, surely.

Like I said though, we weren't going to see the potential in this team early in the season. They should be good later on.

True statements all around. Lee whipped Marshall at the line of scrimmage all night long.

Longview's running game will slaughter us.

If we can't stop Aimie and co. There is no hope Vs Polk and co.

We won't have enough time of possession to make a difference.

I'm so disappointed in our showing vs Lee I have no words. Simply because I don't think Lee is very good.

There is no hope Vs Polk and co .

It's going to be mostly White. Polk didn't get as many carries as #2 from what I remember. It was mostly just White and I think 43. And both are tough to deal with. Now the tackling for the Pack was bad at times tonight, but White is a BEAST. He looks to be bigger than last year too. Just ran over a few of our corners. smh

Like I said. Longview can name whatever score they desire.

I saw nothing but total chaos tonight from Marshall. And it seems the Lee and JT folks in attendance agree with me..... So this isn't just me being a negative Nancy.

Let's just get Longview over with..... Take the loss and move onto Ouachita. It will likey be our only no district win.... If we are lucky.

So was the haller guy the qb last year if so I'd put him at qb they didn't seem to get him the ball much seeing he was the best offensive player on the team it hard to say what lee is they aren't that great at least to me and like mav said... till I see them vs some other teams this game Longview run game will be to much
