I love how so many people on this site immediately start accusing others of making excuses if you post anything other than completely praising their team.

Sounds like you are making an excuse for not praising their team :D

Mavchamp, any word on if the Marshall games will be uploaded again this year?

Seems like a lot of Marshall has gone silent since Friday.

When they beat us last year, the game was up almost immediately.

Too bad they didn't have the video board then. They could've played it there with the score they left up all week. :D

I kid, I kid.

Nah, I just don't live there or work there anymore, so I leave most of my comments to what I've seen or heard so far... Marshall is always here. But what can be said when you are playing a team that should be 10x better than what we looked in week 1 against a team that was horrific for the most part last year?

Ricklan Holmes hasn't been on the scene long enough to even be mentioned in the same sentence as John King.

And he's a defensive specialist right? I'd expect JT to play better defense than they do yearly...but they don't.

Specialist???? That 2014 was the best he's had so far but he's definitely not a defensive specialist. Stats prove otherwise. We've always had stout secondary's but our run stopping hasn't been great since 2014 and 2010.

I honestly don't know. The guy that uploaded them for KMHT last year is no longer with the radio station. He's part of the Dallas Cowboy's internet coverage team now. So I'm not sure the new sports director is planning to continue it. I haven't met or talked to the new guy TBH. I'll find out.

As far as being silent.... I think Mav fans all said our peace about the game last week. That horse has been shot....beaten.... dragged around the track for a few more laps....sent to the glue factory.... and eaten by little johhny in kindergarten.

Pretty disheartened TBH. And this week looks to add to the misery unless we somehow see the biggest turnaround in history.

Lee may be better than everyone thought they would be..... but Longview is still better.... and that's bad news based on what I saw last week.

A list of names Marshall sorely missed last week and why:

Antonio Washington - was a dominant force on the defensive line last year. Marje Smith had a pretty good game from his DE position but we need somebody else to step it up.

Coach Lottinger - was our experienced, fiery offensive line coach. He retired after last year. We have a talented group up front but a rookie coach straight out of college that needs to step it up. Our center was off target way too often ruining any chance at timing and the new coach spent too much time watching the game and not enough with his guys.

Justin Hart - our 4 year starting qb graduated last year. He knew the offense backwards forwards inside and out and made defenses pay for stacking against the run. The offense wasnt the same after he went down with an injury and we definitely missed him last week. Herrington, our current qb, will be fine with some time but will need that learning curve that we took for granted with Hart behind center.

Jaquavian Dabbs/Trel Patton - our dynamic receiving duo from last season, both graduated. These were the guys Hart relied on to make the big catches and plays downfield. Each had outstanding speed and great hands. Our WRs this year are young, inexperienced and dropped too many passes last week. We need at least one to mature quickly and be a go to guy for Herrington to spread defenses and open some running lanes.

True statements.Holmes is a secondary specialist but the run defense has been an issue at times some years. This year will be better than last year's that's for sure!

Mav fans forget that last season they had a horrific game against PT a week before Longview came to Maverick and crapped the bed.

Not saying yall will beat Longview Friday, lol but I wouldn't toss the season because of the Lee loss.

Translation:

I daresay, my good man, it would appear that Marshall's unfortunate defeat to those ruffians from South Tyler has put a damper on the passion of this contest. Whilst a more competitive loss may have given the Maverick faithful a silver-lining, such a one-sided contest to a mediocre adversary has — I fear — sapped their zeal henceforth. Conversely, those fans of the Longview eleven remain yet ardent. For though they came up short against the highly-vaunted Lufkin gridders, it was a far more emulous match up. Thus, they feel a sense of optimism about the remnant of the season.

At first read I thought it might been about the district. But if its all ET...you gotta say Surratt now that Traylor is gone

Keeling has to start being in these discussions. He has 3 rings now from 2 schools. He was an assistant at Kilgore but he was there coaching when they won their title. Don't know about y'all but I kind of see a pattern.

That's the thing... No matter how "good" or "bad" one team or the other is, this always is a tough game, at least through halftime. Let's not kid ourselves- several of those blowout wins for the Lobos were mainly because of Marshall miscues in games that would be otherwise close.

Heck, in 2013, the year Marshall only won 3 games (nailbiters over Pine Tree, Jacksonville, and Mt Pleasant), they had us even in the second half.

He has had one era of kids come through during his tenure. I think the next 4 years will tell whether he is in that conversation. Does he reload with a new generation of athletes. Did he just catch lightening in a bottle with the Johnsons and amie coming through that program. I'm curious if the train keep rolling. Plus those other coaches don't have a tainted 0-10 season that gave a black eye to their program. If he gets one more trophy or makes it to the dance with a new Era of kids then I have no problem mentioning him with those coaches. But my opinion don't matter. But I am biased towards coach suratt lol

Definitely not ready to throw the towel in on 2016 based on the Lee game alone..... and TBH...... no matter how things finish this week Vs. Longview, I'm not giving up either.

One can hope the comparison of the Lee game to the PT game last year proves to be correct.

I want to see us be competitive this week. Win or lose. We were not competitive last week. I've heard it chalked up to many things (some are just excuses IMHO) as to why things went down as they did.

Couple of thoughts:

1. I'm really interested in seeing how the REL-Corsicana game goes. If we see Lee have a similar performance Vs. the Tigers as they did the Mavs, that will SLIGHTLY take some of the sting away. However.... if Corsi plays REL tough.... or if they beat the Raiders..... that's going to cause some consternation for a lot of Mav faithful. Especially knowing we have Corsicana coming up in 2 weeks.

2. No doubt starting 0-2 is unappealing.... but win or lose... I want to see us have some offensive success. We sputtered all night last week. Never got anything going. Disappointing given the numbers Lee gave up last season (almost 49 PPG). But in fairness to REL, they only had 3 returning defensive starters from last season's porous defense. But that lack of experience should have been to our advantage. But we looked like the School for the Blind out there on offese.

3. With 8 returning starters on defense from last season.... this was suppose to be our strength. We gave up an atrocious amount og yardage to REL. Disturbing when you KNOW in your heart that Longview is a MUCH better rushing team than Lee. I hope last week was a wake up call for the D. Or we can just hope Coach King gets cute and tries to throw the ball 60 times Friday night. There's always hope.

Amazing how different this year's game feels from last year's. Makes you wonder how different this would feel if we had simply won last week.

IMHO.... after this week.... I think the next two weeks define the rest of our season. How things go Vs. Monroe Ouachita and Corsicana will set the course for how the remainder of our season could go.

I think most of 16-5A is better than Ouachita..... but probably on par with Corsicana.

And no one has said much about it since most of 16-5A laid an egg last week..... (sorry SS.... but beating Sherman by 1 pt when they are picked to finish 7th in their district doesn't scream victory) ....... but Texarkana put up some EYE-POPPING numbers last week.

Tigers are far and away the favorite in 16-5A after 1 week of play.

I'm with you in a lot of the Lee progression

Marshall is a good looking football team. I think every team has a game they wish they never got off the bus. Yours is out of the way. I think you will give LV a heck of a game. Kids will step up and rally this week. As for Lee their improved but a long way from making any formal comment from me. I know better. I think this week and the Nac game next week will define who they are sort of.
