cottontop
The Texarkana Gazette dont cover the "little guys". The Bowie County Citizens Tribune Is about the only place you might find something How long has your current head coach been there?
tcobaseball
Gazette only cares about T high and PG Not much love for LE who produces D1 talent consistently. The other schools like Hooks, NB, Redwater, Maud, JB mean nothing to them.

Sammy
Newspapers cover the schools who have parents and grandparents that buy the papers. They have a job to appeal to their customers. If they aren't covering your school it's probably because they don't sell any or very many papers in that community. Someone should contact them and see if they would accept a freelance article and then have a local do the game. Just aneed idea. Good luck to these two teams. Thats good maybe he is instilling a better attitude and sportsmanship. The former head coach does not rank very high with me on teaching young men. Maybe we caught him on bad nights. He was trying to end my oldest boys career at 15 yrs old. It did not work very well once he was ready for it. The third time they did it TC3 tried to take his head off.

Gazette only cares about T high and PG Not much love for LE who produces D1 talent consistently. The other schools like Hooks, NB, Redwater, Maud, JB mean nothing to them.  That is a terrible business model. Covering small town East Texas football is like printing your own money. Granted, not $20s and $50s, but certainly $1s and $5s. And they add up. All you gotta do is spend a couple days placing phone calls to coaches, get some team photos, pilfer Dave Campbell and Friday Night Football magazines, and then put it all together in a special "football preview." You sell ads for the package with the pitch, "Every momma and daddy in the county's gonna look at this to see their baby boy!" The entire project could be done in a single weekend, depending on the number of teams. Sammy is correct, but it's a two-way street. It's hard to sell papers in a community where you don't even cover each town's biggest draw: high school football. Cultivating local freelance writers is a good way to go, but you can also get the coach to email you stats/summary and run the game story a day or two late. There are ways around it, if you're willing to put in a little work. If you do it right, it doesn't have to take away your focus from your "prestige" programs, but if you posture yourself as the regional source for local high school football, that's a damn reliable revenue stream. Mr. P
Bowie's stadium is actually quite quaint, in an austere sorta way. Was that a WPA project back in the day? ViewFromAfar
Yes sir WPA all the way. School built in 1935. Football stadium was built in 1939. Our last remodel (2009) of the school restored it back to as close to it's original design as possible. The rock bleachers used to be the home side until about 5 years ago. It is the focal point of our small community.

Really love the look of the rock stadium but I never could understand why the home side was subjected to the brutal sun in your eyes AND the hot, hard rocks...great move to add the nice bleachers and press box on the old visitors side and change that side to the home side. Â Man, that place brings back some great memories of our old rivalry!! Good luck to the Pirates and Coach Hudgeons, hope you guys get a "W" !!!
