Imo...the big question in this game is whether or not Tatum can find enough consistency on offense to move the ball on a solid CH defense. Eags showed flashes Friday but had trouble sustaining it.

I think that is the big question for both teams. Tatum is no slouch on defense either. They are the ones with D1 talent on the D-Line. CH's TDs against wills point were off the big play (two 60ish yard runs and an 87 yard screen pass). Against Whitehouse the passing game never got going again. Can CH run the ball consistently on a talented front? Can the passing game keep Tatum honest enough to not load the box?

I agree with the bitterness but u give them every reason to be lol... yall got beat handily and still giving them the business like yall beat them.... and their actually taking it. I'd hate to see if yall actually did beat them lol

Make no mistake, if we would of best them we would of done moved on.

Without a doubt wudda moved on ... cause yesterday's home runs can't win today's game. THE PAST IS GOOD TO LEARN FROM BUT NOT MUCH ELSE ... it's what you do next that matters ......

We may not score many pts but it sure is fun watching a aggressive defense where 11 kids are all committed to going to the ball hard. Not big just fast and will hit.

Well said ... often looking just at the scores on Saturday one would think that Defense is becoming a lost art ... being committed is usually what makes it all work ....

Yes sir. We haven't had a complete defense in quite some time. It's a joy to watch all 11 having fun and working hard to meet the same goal.

I would love to see Tatum win this game, but it is not the most important thing for me. At this point I want to see our defense continue to build on its strengths and see improvement in a couple areas. Can not depend on your big playmakers to make big plays every time. Going to take everyone doing their job and playing their assignments. Offensively I hope to see our line continue to play good upfront. Our running backs have done a great job, but need help from or receiving core to not drop passes. I know we had at least 5-6 drops last week. Every catch is important and helps our team become more balanced. First week we had a fumble in red zone, last week we failed 3 times to get a single point in the red zone.. Tatum must capitalize on their opportunities. But these are things that can be worked on and are being worked on daily. With a new coach and new coordinators I believe the kids are doing a great job of learning each week and continue to get better. They have put in the work this summer and during two-a-days and that will pay off as the season continues.

Have you been impressed with Tatum in recent years?

Well I understand Tatum's situation a lot better than I understand Chapel Hill's. I followed Tatum all of last year, and having a "rough" year just doesn't say enough about what that program and it's coach went through. Not sure why Chapel Hill has had their fall from grace.

I am a little surprised that Tatum has a 2:1 advantage in the poll.

Have to admit it is a little surprising; but it’s hardly a scientific poll, of course. East Texas folks have a record of dealing more on their hunches and gut feelings. Sometimes they’re wrong, but most times they’re right.

I suspect that when the number-crunchers and the keyboard pounders – many of whom live in a faraway land of no pines – come out with their prognostics, then the game will be considered more or less a toss-up. Most of those folks will throw a point or two CH’s way due to enrollment differential and a point or two due to home field advantage.

Personally, I seldom question East Texan fans on their knowledge or their hunches cause East Texans been more or less surviving on common sense, hunches, and gut feeling since before Sam Houston used home field advantage at San Jacinto. Like I said, these are generally serious, informed, and avid fans who are sometimes they’re wrong, but most times right.

Their weakness, if you consider it a weakness (personally I don’t), is that they are inherently faithful and loyal to their community and their school; and if they cut themselves shaving, they tend to bleed in school colors. Because of this, I would suspect that if you strolled through the Smoaky poll and discarded all those votes by folks with a dog in the hunt, you'd probably find the predictions that were left to be much more in matching the toss-up theory.
