ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: October 21st

In 1927, Bernie McCreary tallied four touchdowns and Leonard Ray tallied three in a 73-0 blow out of the Mount Pleasant Tigers. The Loboes held the Tigers to just 73 total yard while racking up 495 yards of their own.

In 1932, Longview meet Lufkin for the first time in their history as the two schools met at Panther Stadium in Lufkin. The Panthers left no doubt who was the better team that year in a 34-0 romping of Longview.

In 1938, Longview and Texas High met at Lobo Stadium and battled to a 0-0 draw. It was the first time in a decade that Longview hadn’t defeated Texarkana when the two squads met.

In 1949, Tommy Rae’s 21-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was all the green boys would need to knock off Kilgore, 6-0, at Lobo Stadium.

In 1960, Longview hosted Tyler Lee for the first time in their history and followed suit with a dominating 47-8 victory over the Rebels. 6 different Lobos scored, including two from Willard Wright.

In 1966, the Lobos used Keith Parker’s toe three times (once in the 1st quarter, once in the 2nd and once in the 4th) as Longview shut out Tyler Lee, 9-0.

In 1977, Jim Tutt kicked two field goals and Greg Brown hauled in the lone Lobo touchdown of the night at Grim Park as Longview knocked off Texarkana, 13-7. The win was Longview’s 28th regular season victory.

In 1978, the Lobos overcame a 14-3 halftime deficit to rally to an 18-14 victory over Robert E. Lee from Rose Stadium. James Redden intercepted a Lee pass at the Longview goal line with less than 2 minutes remaining to clinch the victory.

In 1983, Marlin Myers two second half scores were all Longview needed to put away from the Marshall Mavericks in a 28-12 victory for the Lobos. The win was Longview’s 15th in a row over the Mavericks.

In 1988, Odell Beckham’s two touchdown in the first half set the stage in a game that saw the Mavericks end Longview’s 19-year winning streak over Marshall. The Mavs, winners by a 28-0 scoreline, held the Lobos to just 8 first downs and 106 total yards on the night at Maverick Stadium.

In 2011, the Lobos got revenge on North Mesquite a year after their 6 year long district winning streak had been snapped by the Stallions. Longview rolled up 231 yards passing in a 49-13 victory over North at Lobo Stadium.

Not only will this game more than likely decide the district title, loser more than likely buys themselves a ticket to Beaumont for a first round date with Westbrook.

At this point, Longview would still get a share of the district title if they beat Heath, I believe.

Wanna beat JT and lock up at least a share of it anyway.

The best thing for us Lobo fans can do moving forward (as hard as it may be) is quit hyping up this Lobo defense to be more than what they are and allow the J.T. fans, alumni and BANDWAGONERS to provide all the bulletin board material this week. We got our hands full enough with our atrocious tackling or lack thereof to be enciting a butt whooping.

This should be a good game. I am just amazed at how JT played tonight. Don't use a lineman to run the cutback and a defensive end to catch a ball and JT might on to something.

The Tyler paper described it as a dominate performance. I agree from a defensive standpoint but the offense is just too cute to be described as dominate. When you have an opportunity to score 70 and walk away with 48, that's more flamboyant than dominate. The BOs rough and tumble style just might save them this Friday against JT's Pretty Boy approach.

Just Gota good feeling about this.... not playing a full complete game and still beating good teams really pretty easily....hmmm didn't Rockwell beat jt??? Or am I losing my mind.... gave up 59 points? Correct???

I think number 35 is going to be very very very special

As you know that was the only tean to put that many points on JT. So, if you want to look at the one game go right ahead.
