Why, that would be good ol’ Nolan Ryan – a man many of my SDC brethren feel is the “greatest pitcher of all-time” (based on his number of no-hitters).

No need to Google :D

Athletics’ owner Charlie O. Finley was obsessed with promotion & created a completely false story about Hunter loving to fish for catfish as a child -- hence the nickname "Catfish"

QUESTION, THE NEXT:

Who is the Texas Rangers' leader in base hits among pitchers since the inception of interleague play in 1997 ???

Single season RBI record-holder Hack Wilson was a fireplug of a man, standing 5'6" and weighing around 190. He hit 56 HR in 1930 to go with his 191 RBI and won a couple other HR crowns in the '20's.

As an aside, for years, Wilson's record stood at 190, but someone reviewing box scores found an instance where he was not credited with an RBI he had earned, resulting in a revision of the record.

Tony Conigliaro was a promising outfielder for the Red Sox in the late '60's, one of the youngest ever to win a home run title. His career was cut short by a pitch that hit him in the face, affecting his eyesight.

Who threw the pitch?

This is one of my all-time favorite trivia questions !!!

Carlos May entered our world on May 17, 1948 . . . . . . . . . . he wore uniform #17 as a member of the Chicago White Sox from 1969 to 1976, so the back of his uniform looked like this:

MAY

17

WHOA -- I blew that question !!! :blushing:

I forgot about the 1981 Division Series (due to the pathetic strike) . . . so there are actually three Expos with post-season victories

  • Steve Rogers (3)
  • Bill Gullickson
  • Ray Burris

The Expos defeated the Phillies, 3 games to 2, in the 1981 NLDS & lost to the Dodgers, 3 games to 2, in the 1981 NLCS.

Who are the only two former teammates to throw no hitters on the same day?

Dave Stewart and Fernando Valenzuela
