The Lord told Abraham that Isaac however held the birth rite, but that Isaac would be the seed of the covenant. The Lord did tell Abraham that Ishmael would be the father of a great nation. Abraham under the direction of Sarah banished Hagar and Ishmael to the east giving them only bread and water. The Muslimes do believe that Ishmael is buried near Mecca. Before the religion of Islam became a formal religion, the people from the Arabian Peninsula were a pagan people who worshipped deities. You need to check the Bible again. Even the Hebrews would worship different deities. It was a constant problem in Canaan and Israel, why should it have been any different in the east that Ishmael and Hagar fled to after being banished ? Perhaps you should read Genesis 16-22 again. The Lord promised Abraham that He would make the progeny of Ishmael a great nation in Genesis 17:20, but the Lord also said that he and his descendants would always be at war Genesis 16:12. The Muslimes have always hated the Jews because they felt that they should have been given the birthright since Ishmael was the first born of Abraham. It is very similar to the story of Cain and Abel and also Esau and Jacob. Both of them were older brothers, and sought revenge on their younger brothers because of God's acceptance of Abel's sacrifice and not Cain's and Esau selling his birthright to Jacob for a pottage of lentils since he had a bad hunt.
