How can we tame the uneducated asinine fans who don't know the game?

I know there is not really a good answer for this but I'm tired of sitting by the fans who never played, never tried to learn, or won't get off the book of face to understand the games. Basketball fans are the worse. I guess its the close quarters and lack of fans in general. But all sports have them. Yesterday I sat on the opposing teams side to get away from my kid's uncle who hollers "Shoot!" every time someone gets the ball on the other side of the court. So while I was sitting there the opposing teams fans were just as clueless. I had this large lady screaming at the refs the whole game to call it even. The fouls for each team was at 8 for both.

Maybe I'm just getting older but some people need to get a clue. I was embarrassed when my son texted me that our game was called short because grown men got into a confrontation with the opposing teams coach. Personally I think they should be banned for a year or two. Maybe they would think twice about what they are doing.

Your kid's uncle is either your brother or your brother-in-law....educate him in the parking lot or something......:P

I've tried. My own mother has had enough and moves away from him. I think he might have gotten the clue. Didn't hear him until the final of the game. But he is just an example of what I am talking about.

Sounds very educated to me, trying to bait the other team into taking terrible shots. Now that's a fan.

He should add "don't dribble, just run with it" and "I'm open, pass it up here" to his repertoire.

A few days ago I read a letter drafted by some "parents" and sent to a hoops coach at an area school...14 points of emphasis/contention...after reading that letter there is not a method to tame the uneducated asinine fan(s) who know nothing about the sport...other than outright full frontal verbal assault, then the uneducated fan will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience...

smh about HS/PP game...did refs call game or school officials?

Yea I know what u mean! The ones that never played are the ones that know the most and get on this site and others and say things about coaches and players like they know best ! We sure have them at Carthage . Get on a Carthage tread and u will see for ur self and it will not take long ! I bet these people would be "HOT" if someone talked about there kid the way they talk about other people's kids !

I'm barely aware of most of the rules. Never was a basketball fan until G'kids started playing. There's a couple of fans, who may, or may not know the game, that constantly holler "move your feet" over and over and over. I never holler at the kids. Did have an opponents fan holler at the Refs, "You need to throw her out of the game" at my granddaughter, and I hollered for them to throw him out of the gym. Neither thing happened lol. Yes, there seems to always be fans to avoid, so when one of them gets close, I move my feet :)

Reb I'm with you.....I can remember when girls only played half-court (3on3)....and there were jump balls after EVERY tie-up.....would jump at the center circle OR in the circle closest to the basket....ie...the free throw "circle".....now the feet moving...in MY case would be more of a shuffle.......AND since only a "few days"till retirement.....would probably have to be escorted from the court because of me administering "mavgrads" stick as he described as a coaching qualification upon those who were acting ignorant in the stands...yes am getting too old to care....."calgone take me away!!!!!!!

Nobody from Evadale can talk about fans acting out during the game. "Yes, I am that lady"

Never mentioned a lady, but did mention more than one. But you're right, Evadale fans are very vocal. I like to holler at the Refs myself. Basketball is infinitely more significant in Evadale than most other places in SETX, and the fans more knowledgeable. But if it helps the Rebs, you keep on hollering, cause I think we have a real good team this year. Go Rebels!

Evadale is salty this year! Saw that they beat Dallardsville and Coach Foster teams do not lose to same classification schools very often. So good luck this year

A few years ago I was at a Jr. high game and a dad from our team made a complete fool of himself and it was hilarious. The opposing team was playing a 2-3 zone and their taller girl was standing in middle of lane with her hands up, the dad sitting on our side was yelling as loud as he could at refs, 3 SECONDS, 3 SECONDS. I looked at my buddy and ask if we should correct him and we both agreed to let him yell, he probably wouldn't have believed us anyway. lol
