NFL Draft coming up, and we've got a chance to actually have not just a Greenville Lion, but one of the infamous 0-40 crew drafted. Keep an eye out (probably on day 3) for DL John Franklin, college at SFA. (NOT the "Last Chance U" guy of the same name.)

Spring football drills start for Marshall next week.

Real excited about it.  Tons of returning starters after a productive off season.

Couple of transfers. Nothing like last season, but a few that could be immediate impacts.

All comes down to how much QB JJ has matured from last season and the defense’s ability to stop ththe run.

Should have more info for 7 on 7.  I’m sure we will continue the league play with Evangel, Carthage, and whoever joins.

No word on SQTs. I’m guessing it will be he same as last year: Tyler and Rowlett.

They may do the ETBU tourney too (non SQT).

Construction of the new pressbox hasn’t started yet

still no word on concession and restroom upgrades   Hopefully it’s next on their list

More info when I get it.

I watched him @ SFA. Solid DL player for sure.

Not sports related.... but it’s still district.

Congrats to Marshall, Pine Tree, and MP bands on winning sweepstakes yesterday.

SS just missed out.

No report from Greenville and Texas High.

At the area track meet today:

All 3  Mav Relay teams  advanced to regionals. 400m, 800m, 1600m.

Speed to burn. And almost all of them will be playing football this fall.

From the MISD website:

All three Marshall boys relay teams – the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 – qualified for the regional meet by placing in the top four of Thursday’s events. The 4x200 team placed second in Area, with a time of 1.27.717 just behind area champion West Mesquite. Marshall’s 4x100 squad was third behind District 16-5A rivals Hallsville and Texas High, while the 4x400 team finished fourth behind Royse City, Texas High and Hallsville.

In the individual events, the Mavs will send two to regionals in the Triple Jump, with district champion DeTorian Hurd finishing second and teamamate Tahj Washington finishing third. In the high jump, both Marshall Area qualifiers – Khalil Wallace and Selah Smith – advanced to regionals by placing second and fourth, respectively.

Wallace’s performance was particularly satisfying for the Mavs, as he finished as the alternate at the district meet and made the most of that opportunity with a runnerup finish Thursday.

Overall in the team standings, the Mavs finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Area meet, with 64 team points. Lucas Lovejoy ran away with the team championship, with 120 points to second-place Hallsville’s 94.

The final week of district  is upon us and there is still much to be decided.  Hallsville continues to hold a one game lead over SS for the district championship.  However, they will meet again on Friday to decide who will be the top seed for the playoffs.  The winner will settle for second place.  Texas High, barring a disastrous final  week looks to have all but clinched the #3 slot.  However, the 4th and final slot remains to be determined.  Marshall can clinch the playoff berth with a win against Pine Tree Tuesday night.  However, a loss could end their season should Greenville beat either SS or MP in their final 2 games.  Marshall currently has a half game lead over Greenville, but will be idle with a bye on Friday.  MP and PT have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The regular season is over for the ladies.  The playoffs will be getting started this week.  Stay tuned for match-ups and details to games.

(Sorry, not sports related, but still had to brag.)

Well...we stink at sports...but we can darn sure build some robots! The Greenville HS Robotics team (the "Robowranglers") just won the world competition at the FIRST Championship at Minute Maid Park in Houston this past weekend!  It's their third world championship (1993, 2008).

OK, carry on... :)

Mashall beat Pine Tree 10-1

Mount Pleasant- OFF

BASEBALL STANDINGS
Hallsville 9-2*
Sulphur Springs 8-3*

It was a night of upsets on Tuesday.  The biggest being Greenville's win over Hallsville.  It could have been a disaster for the Bobcat's district title hopes, but Texas High's win over Sulphur Springs derailed a tie for first place headed into the final game on Friday.  Marshall blasted PT to clinch the fourth and final playoff slot.

Mavchamp, being the sports analyst you are, how can you not clearly see by looking at the district standings that if Texas High beats Pine Tree Friday and Sulphur Springs beats Hallsville it will be a 3 way tie with all three 9-3. If Texas High Wins Friday and Hallsville Wins, Hallsville will end up at 10-2 Texas High will be 9-3 and Sulphur Springs will be 8-4! If the 3 way tie occurs oh me all three will have beat each other once.

Heard some great reports about the first day of practice.

Sounds like we got numbers AND size.  A couple more transfers.  Nothing like we saw last season, but still a few new faces and some others that are "returning home" to MHS.

Coach Mathis sounded very upbeat in his first spring in Marshall.  Here is the article in the MNM:
