Sooners 2018 Thread

Gonna be losing a lot of key guys in 2018, but we've also got a lot of young talent that was battle-tested in 2017.

Some staffing shakeups are possible, and some serious defensive upgrades are desperately needed.

How's the recruiting outlook heading into the off-season?

New year, new thread...  BOOMER SOONER!

Any other of y'all OU insiders hearing the same thing I'm hearing? About a certain staffing shakeup? @sawemoff? @Valhalla? Bueller?

I haven't heard much. The only guys I think are safe are Gundy and Bedenbaugh.

Mike Stoops and Jay Boulware won't be back.

Cooks, Kish and Simmons should be gone as well.

This is encouraging for the defensive side of the ball. Nik Bonitto. Brendan "Bookie" Radley Hiles. DaShaun White.

I am always all for any of our guys who can make a living in the League, but I think that Lampkin is making a mistake that will cost him money.  But am also hearing rumors that he wasn't the brightest bulb in the classroom, actually struggling to stay academically eligible, so that may be a large factor in his decision, too.

Yeah, same. I don't begrudge a guy trying to improve his situation, but too often I'm seeing young guys getting terrible advice and jumping the gun. It's a bummer.

Sure, selfishly I would like him to stay at OU another year. But even looking at the big picture, it seems hasty and ill-advised. I hope it works out for him.

If I recall correctly there were academic issues just getting him enrolled in college; I believe it had to do with foreign language requirements.  From what I am hearing, he did flunk out hastening his attempted move to the NFL.

FWIW, I do not see him getting drafted.

What's wrong with him again? Asking for a friend

What friend? Tell me the name of the friend who trusts you for Internet message board information, and I'll let you know what I think of Schmitty.

It's only a huge loss when your team isn't exactly in shape or up to par with the rest of the big boys.

How would you know anything about what's considered up to par for the big boys?

Stay in your lane son.

There is also a history of overexertion and injury that was attributed to OU's S&C. There has a been a lot of internal conflict at OU between Stoops/Riley/OL and DL coaches and Schmidt as well. The fact Riley will likely make no attempt to retain him tells you everything you need to know.

Who attributed it to him? Was it fans just throwing stuff out, or was have any players said anything? I  know a few guys who played at OU and they said he was freaking tough... But didn't say it was to the point of outdoing their bodies.

Also, Matthias, don't worry about cluttering up the Aggie thread. It's all over the place anyway, and it's offseason hahaha

Haha, well, I try to stay in my lane and (as a mod) keep things as tidy as possible. I don't care to talk 'Horn/Aggie news or recruiting here, and I wouldn't want to stick my Sooner nose in y'all's affairs if I can avoid it.

Plus, y'all's fanbase has a certain rather annoying character who I'd rather keep bounced from our club, if at all possible.  ;)

Another RB could be looking to transfer.

Rumored to be Abdul Adams.  I hope that the rumor is false - - with a little more attention to improving ball security, he could contribute big time:  Anderson, Sermon and Adams and Pledger will be trying to crash the party.

We should be pretty well fixed at running back next year.

Pledger's gonna get snaps. Abdul's buried at RB3. I really hate to lose him, but he's the odd man out...  unless he tries to convert to wideout/Jet Sweep Specialist.  :D
