This might be of interest to some of you summer league folks...this is something that needs to be addressed and enforced...hopefully the NCAA will do what is right and needed.

🚨 Softball Early Recruiting 1f6a8.png🚨

In April the NCAA will vote on whether or not to change the softball recruiting model. If it passes (and I hope and think it will)..here are just a few things to know about it:

6th Graders, 7th Graders, 8th Graders, Freshmen and Sophomores that have already committed are prohibited from calling their future coaches or meeting with anyone in the athletic department while visiting their future campus.

They are no longer allowed to make phone calls to their future coaches. (They currently can).

They can send coaches electronic correspondence at their own discretion. The NCAA does not view a verbal commitment as a binding agreement and therefore does not offer exceptions to recruiting legislation for those that have verbally committed.

With the new legislation student-athletes will not be able to be in contact with a college coach until Sept 1st of their junior year. This means no more phone calls or unofficial visits until that date. No talking about recruiting on campus or at camps.

It also means no verbal commitments. "Kind of".

Can recruits still verbally commit prior to Sept. 1 of their junior year?

Yes, they can. There is no current legislation that prohibits a prospect from making a verbal commitment at any age BUT if a student-athlete does verbal a HUGE Red Flag will go up in regards to how/why if they weren't allowed to speak with the coaches about it.

Can and will coaches still evaluate players during the spring and summer prior to Sept. 1 of their junior high school year?

Yes.
