TSWA Class 3A All-state football team

Locklin, Foster are players of the year

BRYAN – Rockdale quarterback Torry Locklin was the offensive player of the year on the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 3A all-state football team.

Locklin, who signed with Kansas on Wednesday, threw for 2,565 yards and 27 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. He also for ran for another 2,481 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead Rockdale to the D1 state title.

Newton linebacker Corbin Foster was the defensive player of the year. He had 240 tackles, 34 of them for losses in leading Newton to the D2 state title.

Yes, but read some of the others TSWA threads, you'll learn something. Each program can nominate a maximum of six (6) players and if they nominate more than six the person who compiles the nominations for the ballot will have to make some decisions. Like this season with Mart or a handful of others, Newton had more than six who earned to be recognized, but that's the policy. Example, Midway had three legitimate all-state offensive linemen, all dominate, all going D1 to Texas Tech, Kansas State and North Texas. But, because they were also loaded with all-state talent at QB, WR, RB, DT, LB, etc...only one of the OL made the ballot.

I'm not saying the system is perfect, but it gives you insight.
