If local municipalities want to fork over tax payer money then I am fine with that. If the city's vision is in line with a sporting venue then get after it. Much easier for local politicians to get voted out and much easier for residents to leave if they don't want to be taxed for it. Federal subsidies for the NFL is grossly wrong though. Big difference to me.

I don't believe you have to govern by extremism which I relate the hard right with and many if not all on the endorsement list of Empower Texans.  I don't believe in the hard left either.   I do buy into this though.......

“I don't want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it.”
Billy Graham“I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right . The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it.”“I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. The late great Rev. Graham notwithstanding, what does religion have to do with this? I’ll be honest, I didn’t read the article. Dallas morning news hasn’t printed anything worthwhile since they botched coverage of the Kennedy assassination.

I voted the first weekend of early voting.

Did any of you notice any of the ballot initiatives? Some I thought were interesting:

1. Replace Property Tax with a "consumption tax".

2. No governmental entity should ever construct or fund construction of toll roads without voter approval.

3. Texas should require employers to screen new hires through the free E-Verify system to protect jobs for legal workers.

4. Texas families should be empowered to choose from public, private, charter, or homeschool options for their children’s education, using tax credits or exemptions without government constraints or intrusion.

5. Vote fraud should be a felony in Texas to help ensure fair elections.

6. To slow the growth of property taxes, yearly revenue increases should be capped at 4%, with increases in excess of 4% requiring voter approval.

7. Tax dollars should not be used to fund the building of stadiums for professional or semi-professional sports teams.

That's not all of them...

Would you be in favor of a "general civics" test or a "general government knowledge" test for voting?

I'm not even talking about trick questions. I'm talking about questions like:

1. How many branches of government are there?

2. How long is a Presidential term?

3. Who is your current Federal Representative/Senator?

Or maybe take questions directly from the U.S. Citizenship test.

I would favor ALL ballots being paper ballots, counted by living human beings equally apportioned form each party..........It's always been my view that if you don't own property, you should not have the right to vote........some of the founding fathers agreed with this position.....it's a shame they didn't win out.......

I hear you on the paper ballot thing. And all parties involved (i.e. all ballot counters) should have to sign a document affirming the count is correct.

Though I don't necessarily mind electronics being involved, as long as things are verified.

But as far as the property goes, what about people who are renting? I mean, there are a large number of people who live in apartments and who rent them.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't OWN property,  you don't vote.......

That would probably be 90% of us, though.

You don't truly own your house, or land. Stop paying property taxes, and see what happens. Most people driving a car are either financing it, or leasing it. Which means another entity owns it.

IF property owners were the only ones allowed to vote, there wouldn't BE any property taxes.......that's the point......

I disagree. I can't really point to any evidence otherwise, I just respectfully disagree.

ok...follow the logic....IF the founders who wanted this done had won out, do you really believe that property owners would have voted to tax their assets??? No, we would still be collecting money CONSTITUTIONALLY, without property OR income taxes, which came from libtards who wanted to fund their pie in the sky socialist ideas.....Property owners would not have put up with that, and had they been the only ones able to vote, these socialists would never have seen the light of day.......

Rich liberals want to tax themselves more. So I would say that does point to the possibility that some property owners would be fine with taxing their assets.
