Teams may be scrambling to find turf fields.

I've heard the UIL may make exceptions and allow Sunday games. Anybody else heard this?

Seriously doubt Sunday but they may allow Monday but if they get game 1 in and can’t play another game this weekend the winner of game 1 advances

^^ This is how the rules read. Pretty sure no games on Sunday.

Geez, it just goes to show how important game 1 is. Not that the other two aren't important, it's just that teams may never get to play those other two games, for that very reason.

Next week is STAAR testing. State law no games on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. If the school is giving a test for the first time on Thursday, then no game is allowed.

Here is the press release from the UIL:

Superintendents, Athletic Directors, and Coaches,

State Testing Effect on Softball/Baseball Playoffs, and State Track

Questions have arisen in reference to the scheduling of softball and baseball post-season contests in conjunction with state testing next week.

In reference to those questions, please find the following information:

  • For softball / baseball post-season games being played this week, all games must be completed by Saturday, May 5th.  Due to state testing, Monday will not be an option for playing games that cannot be completed due to weather.

  • As required by state law, no post-season games can be scheduled Monday through Thursday next week if any student in the school is taking a primary assessment instrument that day.   If a primary assessment is not administered on Thursday, then games can be scheduled for that day.

  • A primary assessment is defined as the initial assessment and does not include re-test or make-ups.  For example, if Thursday is scheduled for make-up tests or re-testing, then games can be scheduled on that day.

  • If there are conflicts between a softball / baseball playoff game(s) and the Track and Field State Meet (May 11th - 12th), it is recommended (but not required) that schools schedule only a one game series.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at [email protected] or 512-471-5883.

Thank you,

Susan Elza, Ed.D.

UIL Director of Athletics

Big line of thunderstorms just cleared our area up north but looks like they are going to play havoc with all the games down south tonight!! They are supposed to come through the Henderson/Carthage area around 6:-6:30!! Good luck with trying to get anything in tonight!!!
