DaveTV1
I'm not sure how long it's going to last, but I went there today and it's true. http://abc13.com/society/heres-how-long-galvestons-clear-water-will-last-/3536182/ . I've never seen it not murky, so it was a must see for me. It might be something to do this weekend if it's still clear.

I haven't seen it that clear since I was in HS.
DaveTV1
It didn't even last a week. I heard this morning it's back to being murky down there.

The rivers emptying into the Gulf ( what causes the murky waters) is vital for the fish, shrimp, oysters . Economy needs that as well. That's the main reason I assume they don't dam up the rivers cause obviously blue waters would severely boost tourism. Lot of folks travel to Florida for the clear blue beaches. All of the dams would eventually be breached if they didn't have an outlet. The reason we had flooding in Atascocita was because they couldn't release the flood waters quick enough, because it would have flooded more homes downstream during Harvey.

Blue waters would absolutely boost tourism but the rivers are extremely important to the economy and ecosystem. The only way Galveston would have clear water is if the currents shifted again, but Destin, Fl and other panhandle cities that are on the Gulf. Galveston is 249 miles away from the Mississippi, but Corpus doesn't have clear water which is even further away. South Padre does or it did when I went. Destin is 366 miles away from the Mississippi. I know Texas rivers contribute, but not like the Mississippi. Biloxi/Gulfport are murky as well. We all know Texas has several rivers that dump into the Gulf. Starting with the Sabine in the east to the Rio Grande to the Southwest, however sometimes due to drought the Sabine doesn't flow into the Gulf. https://www.csmonitor.com/2001/0521/p3s1.html . I'm not sure if it has started flowing again.
MrBuddyGarrity
THE GREAT DIVIDE: Stand-Up Paddleboard Gulf Coast posted video Thursday of the water near Galveston’s Pleasure Pier. It shows where the brown ends and the clear water begins. https://t.co/P0ToRg62a3 https://t.co/09M7puPwHp

The tide brings all the muck to the shoreline.
