Mavchamp Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 Marshall went 2-1 Tuesday in 7 on 7. The starters beat Jefferson 38-13 and defeated Evangel 38-6. Backups lost to Carthage. Mavs are 5-2 in league play right now. In SQT action they are looking to improve on last week’s semifinal appearance in Lufkin. They are in Tyler today. I’ve heard they will be in Rowlett next weekend. Hopefully this will translate to some success in the Fall. Guys are working hard. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They are in the same pool: Marshall, JT, Mesquite, & Arlington Lamar Mavs wanting to avenge last week’s 1 point loss to JT. Marshall was the only team to beat kaufman in the Tyler SQT. No question about that. Longview is ranked #9 in 6A. Carthage will no doubt be top 3 in 4A D1. Tyler Lee won’t be state ranked, but they are picked to finish 4th in their district. That’s a tough row to hoe. I think Jacksonville and Whitehouse will be the top contenders with us in district. Nac is still a mystery to me. Shaping up to what could be a great year. Then lost to John Tyler 48-34 They are done with SQT's for the summer. Their final week of League play will be next Tuesday. Not sure if it will be in Carthage, Marshall, or Shreveport (Evangel). Dallas Bishop Dunne and Mesquite Horn got the final 2 slots in Rowlett. Looks like Whitehouse is the only school in East Texas to qualify for the state tourney in 5A or 6A. I think the Pirates are going to be even more improved in 2018. I expect them to make some noise in district play. Better not sleep on PT..... maybe.... just maybe... they are starting to turn the corner. Not calling them world beaters or saying they'll go x amount of rounds deep, but I think Pine Tree will be better than people think. There's something brewing over in West Longview that hasn't been there in some time. You can definitely see the upward trend in the lower grades, their freshmen team went 9-1 this past year (unheard of) and even gave Longview's fish fits at times during last years scrimmage. DJ Freeman (soph qb) led that fish team and will probably be starting for PT this year. Name to remember. The higher grades have players like JJ Sparkman, Keshon Williams.. Mavchamp Posted June 28, 2018 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Even though PT has been at or near the bottom of the standings more often than not the last few years..... they have given Marshall and Texas high tougher games than expected the last couple of years. 2015 for us in particular. And don’t let last year’s final fool you. They played closer than it looked. MAY have been 2016 they gave Texas High a scare too. Their wins over arch rival Hallsville should raise some eyebrows too. They went 1-2 in pool play, which dropped them to the consolation bracket. They advanced to the third round there...losing to Temple. Everyone is done...now it's time for the weightroom until August.
