DCTF’s predicted finish:

Marshall

Whitehouse

Nacogdoches

Jacksonville

Pine Tree

Lindale

Hallsville

Mount Pleasant

thoughts???

Marshall is by far the class of this District, no doubt about it.

Pine Tree is better than Jacksonville and Nacogdoches, IMO. The Indians and the Dragons will battle it out for the 4th spot again.

Pine Tree has given Marshall and Texas high fits the last couple of years.

They have hung tough for 3 quarters more often than not. But depth would lead to a 4th qtr collapse that made games look less competitive than they truly were.

PT has been coming around.  They have shown a clear progression for the last 2-3 seasons.  Time will tell how much....

No one should take them lightly.

IF(HUGE IF) Dave Campbell's predictions are right....the playoffs would look something like this....

Tomball Vs. John Tyler (in Tyler)
Texas High Vs. Magnolia West (TBA)
Mesquite Poteet Vs. College Station (TBA)
West Mesquite Vs. Lufkin (in Lufkin)

Lamar Consolidated Vs. Marshall (in Marshall)
Whitehouse Vs. Montgomery (TBA)
Nacogdoches Vs. Huntsville (TBA)
Jacksonville Vs. A&M Consolidated (in College Station)

I hope all this comes together.  Would be sweet to have Marshall, JT, and Lufkin all hosting first round games.

Wondering where TxH would meet Tomball.... Nac (SFA)?  Lufkin?

--------------------------------
Side Note:
I know they aren't in East Texas Districts anymore....but here goes:

Greenville is picked to come in 7th (out of 9) in 8-5A DII.
Sulphur Springs is picked to come in 6th

Ennis and Corsicana are picked to finish 1 & 2 in that district.

Being in a 9 team district is pretty tough.  But it does leave wiggle room for a mistake.

Been a while since SS missed the playoffs in consecutive years.

Greenville can't really seem to catch a break with alignment.  Then again...the other option was a district with the Frisco schools...so yeah.  Less driving for the Lions I suppose.

If all east Texas school do what they suppose to do. This will happen.

Tyler Lee could be anwhere right after Lufkin on your toughest teams list. Depending how they cope without Chance Aime.

How the heck is he still there?!?  Kid has given us fits the past few years

Games that pique my interest and why:

Hallsvile/Kilgore- I think this game immediately will show us if Hallsville has improved from their horrid 2017 season.
Jacksonville/Carthage- Both are common opponents.  So I want to see it.  Carthage is a power.  JAX rebuilding.
Jacksonville/Henderson- Jax against another quality opponent.  But not at Carthage's level.  Wanna see if they compete.
Lindale/Kaufman-  If Lindale can hang with Kaufman.... people better pay attention to the Eagles.
Marshall/Tyler Lee- Homer pick.  If we stink it up in this game... the next two could brutal.
Marshall/Longview- Huge underdogs in this one.  I just would like us to make it competitive.
Marshall/Carthage- The preseason gauntlet wraps up with one of the top teams in TX.  Wanna see us compete.
Nac/Kilgore- Wanna see how nac performs against a quality opponent.
Nac/Lufkin-  How Nac does in this game could be a preview on how good or bad they are.
Nac/Tyler Lee- Both common opponents.  Always fun to compare these orange footballs to these apple footballs.
PT/Kilgore- Again.... interested to see how PT does against a quality opponent
WH/Henderson- quality opponent check
WH/Melissa- see above.  If WH does well in these 2 games.... the Wildcats will have sent notice to the rest of the district

Who has the most difficult non-district schedule? Easiest non-district schedule?

Hallsville (1-9)
Terrell (3-7)
Kilgore (9-4)
Bullard (3-7)
Overall Opponents: (15-18)
This is the weakest Hallsville schedule I've seen in a long, long time. It ranks next to last in the district, just ahead of MP. No reason they shouldn't easily go 2-1.  Kilgore will be the game that truly shows how much they have improved.  No excuse for the Bobcats not to be at least (2-1) headed into district.

Jacksonville
Carthage (16-0)
Palestine (4-6)
Henderson (11-3)
Overall Opponents: (31-9)

The Indians have pieced together the 2nd toughest non-district schedule in the district, behind only Marshall.  They open with a defending state champion and close with one of the best teams in East Texas.  If not for a rivalry game Vs. Palestine... their non-district schedule could have been brutal.  (1-2) seems likely.  (2-1) a possibility.  If they go (3-0).... 9-5A should be concerned.

Lindale
Kaufman (12-2)
Forney (2-8)
Van (10-2)
Overall Opponents: (24-12)
The Eagles have the 5th toughest schedule, but blame most of those losses on Van, who account for 8 of the 12.  A decent 3rd opponent easily could have propelled them to #3    Kaufman was a region finalist, while Van was a 10 game winner that went 2 rounds deep.  Lindale will be battle tested headed in to district, even if they are (1-2)

Marshall
Tyler Lee (6-4)
Longview (14-2)
Carthage (16-0)
Overall Opponents: (36-6)
Brutal.  The toughest non-district schedule in the district.  A 6A semifinalist team and a 4ADI state champion.  Lee accounts for 4 of the 6 losses.... while Lee's record isn't anything to brag about.... remember... Lee is a school that (last season) had over 1,000 more students....and a deeper roster. (2-1) or (1-2) is a toss up IMHO.  (0-3) isn't out of the question.  No doubt they will be tested either way.

Mount Pleasant (2-8)
Wylie East (2-8)
North Lamar (3-7)
Paris (7-4)
Overall Opponents: (12-19)
Rumor has it Paris could be loaded for a deep run in 2018, so the Tigers will have an uphill battle in that game it seems.  But Wins over WE and NL should be on the docket.  (2-1) in non-district could signal life for the Tigers.  If they bottom out to (0-3)....it could be a long, long season for MP.

Nac (1-9)
Kilgore (9-4)
Lufkin (11-3)
Tyler Lee (6-4)
Overall Opponents: (26-11)
Nac has pulled together the 3rd toughest non-district schedule behind Marshall and Jacksonville.  They face a former 6A team that's coming off of a quarterfinal appearance and a 4A Div I team that went 3 rounds deep.  This would be a tough schedule even or a good Nac team.  Considering they won only one game last year.... this could be a daunting task.  Coaches will have to work hard to keep their heads up should things start (0-3).

PT (3-8)
Bullard (3-7)
Pittsburgh (6-5)
Kilgore (9-4)
Overall Opponents: (18-16)
Pine Tree enters with the 6th ranked schedule.  The Pirates snapped a LONG playoff drought last season in spite of only winning two games.   While the schedule isn't really daunting, it does contain two playoff teams.  One of their archrivals in Kilgore was a region semifinalist last season, while Pittsburgh lost in the first round.  No reason to think PT couldn't go 2-1 with the two 4A-D2 schools.  Kilgore, 4AD1 will be a test.

WH (6-5)
Henderson (11-3)
Chapel Hill (3-7)
Melissa (12-2)
Overall Opponents: (26-12)
Whitehouse is entering the season high as they were the lone school in East Texas 5A or 6A to qualify for the state 7 on 7 tourney.  Add in the fact that they have the 4th toughest schedule.  Had it not been for CH's 7 losses, WH easily could have leap-frogged Nac for #3.  They face a pair of 4AD1 teams that each advanced to the quarterfinals last season.  Should WH go (3-0), the region better be prepared for some noise.  (1-2) could be a possibility

Most likely to go 3-0?
Pine Tree given their loaded 4A schedule of yawner teams.  Kilgore will be their lone test.

Most likely to go 0-3?
Marshall.  Longview and Carthage are killer and they will be underdogs in both.  Lee is a mystery minus Chance Aime at the QB position, whom terrorized us in 2016 and 17.  BUT Wickware is back again...and he tore us up too.  Marshall went (1-3) in non-district in 2016 and (0-4) last season in the same.  However, they went on to go (11-1) in district play in those two seasons.

Nac isn't too far behind with Lufkin on the schedule.  Nac's (1-9) record last season leads me to believe they will be underdogs to Lee and Kilgore too.  So.... (0-3) isn't out of the realm of possibilities for both Marshall and Nac.
