GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Records, records and more records. That was the theme for the Lobos during their 56-28 victory over the Ruston Bearcats, in a game that saw three school records fall and two others tied. Longview's Haynes King threw for 359 passing yards to set the new school record in that category, surpassing Joel Armstrong's 314 passing yards he set in 2000 vs Tyler Lee. Behind 185 of those 359 passing yards, was Kamden Perry, who set the new school record for receiving yards in a game with those 185 yards. Each player also tied the school record for passing touchdowns in a game (5) and receiving touchdowns in a game (3). Overall, the Lobos set a school record for passing yards in a game with 379 total passing yards. Even with the school records and the 56 points, the Lobos hurt themselves a lot of times throughout the game. The Lobos, after receiving the opening kickoff, drove down the field and were in a prime position on the two yard line of Ruston to put up the opening score. However, a fumble started things off on the wrong foot. Three more fumbles would come for Longview on the night, two by high/bad snaps. 10 of Ruston's 18 points came directly from those two bad snaps. The Lobo defense also had their own struggles on the night, giving up a season high 535 yards on the night (8th most allowed in team history). But when the going went tough, the Lobos made numerous 4th down stops inside their own 25 and the Lobos were able to hold Ruston scoreless in the 4th quarter. With the win, Longview improved to 4-0 on the season for the first time since 2005. And won their 9th consecutive non-district game, their longest since a 18-game non-district winning streak dating from 2001 to 2005. Next up on the slate for the Lobos is District 11-6A. Longview finished 2nd in district play last season, behind Mesquite Horn, in a season that marked just the 2nd time in 14 seasons that Longview did not win at least a share of the district crown under John King. The Lobos are 12-2 in district openers under John King, with both seasons the Lobos lost their district opener being the two seasons they did not win a district crown. Rockwall is Longview's first opponent, a team looking to win their first district crown since the 2015 season. Longview heads back to Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium for the 2nd straight season to face off against the Yellowjackets, a place the Lobos have never lost at. The Lobos are 3-0 all-time against Rockwall at the Wilk, and 5-0 overall. Last season's 31-21 victory marked just the 2nd time in the 5th previous games in Rockwall that the Lobos have allowed 21 points. The Jackets are averaging just 12.7 points a game at home against the Lobos since the two teams joined districts for the first time against one another back in 2004. But this season seems to be a different story for the Jackets. Rockwall is scoring at insane pace of 54.7 points a game, including a 73 point performance against Arlington Martin. The Jackets have scored at least 42 points in all three of their games so far this season, and likely would've in their cancelled game against Rowlett. The two schools have met a previous 8 times, with Longview winning 7 of those contests. Rockwall's only victory came in 1931, when the Jackets knocked off Longview, 20-6, in a Class B Bi-District game. Since then, Longview has rung up seven consecutive victories. The two schools have met only once in non-district play, when the Loboes of 1934 handed Rockwall a 14-7 defeat. In the 6 district victories against Rockwall, 4 of the 6 games have been decided by two scores or less. After a 4 point victory in 2004 and a 2 point victory in 2005, the Lobos blew out Rockwall in consecutive seasons by 33 and 34 points respectively. In 2016, Longview struggled to control the game and nearly fumbled it away at the end before the Lobo defense stepped up for the 36-29 victory. Last season, after struggling mightily in their first two district games, saw the Lobo defense lead the way in the form of holding Rockwall on an 18-yard drive to 0 points and also blocking a field goal. This helped Longview to grow a 24-14 lead, before Rockwall drew within 24-21 in the 4th quarter. Jalen Carr's 2nd pick of the night ended any doubt for Longview and helped the Lobos to a 31-21 win.

ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: September 28th
In 1923, Longview traveled to Tyler and battled to a 7-7 tie at Fair Park.
In 1928, Sulphur Springs grabbed it’s only victory ever over the Lobos, 12-6.
In 1929, Owens rushed into the end zone in the 3rd quarter to give Longview a 7-6 lead before a blocked punt recovered by Longview in their own end zone in the 4th quarter gave Marshall an 8-7 victory over the black and gold of Longview in Marshall.
In 1945, Jim Hickey rushed in from 30 yards out in the 1st quarter to cap the scoring as Paris notched a 6-0 victory over the Lobos at Noyes Stadium.
In 1951, Longview’s Dick Nash started the scoring with an 81 yard rush and the Lobos never looked back in a 26-7 victory over Denison at Lobo Stadium.
In 1956, Fort Worth Amon Carter-Riverside picked up two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to lift them to a 31-19 victory over the Lobos at Lobo Stadium. The Eagles rushed for 321 yards on the night in the win.
In 1962, David Kiergan tallied the only touchdown of the night as Longview upset Spring Branch Memorial, 8-0, at Reggie Grob Stadium in Houston.
In 1984, Joe Johnson rushed for two touchdowns, and Alvernon Jones hauled in a 56-yard pass reception as the Lobos knocked off Tyler Lee at Rose Stadium, 27-3.
In 1990, the Lobos pulled in three first quarter touchdowns and added a safety before the quarter ended to spark a 44-20 victory over #8 Dallas Roosevelt at Lobo Stadium.
In 2007, Longview need just 91 seconds to show they were the better team as the Lobos rushed out to a 20-0 lead before you could sit in your chair in a 50-18 romp of Dallas Carter that would begin Longview’s dominance at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.
In 2012, behind 9 fumbles by Longview, the Lobos were slapped and slapped hard in a 33-7 to Mesquite for the Skeeters’ first win over Longview in 48 years. Marco Rodriguez would kick 4 field goals in the contest for Mesquite, as the Lobo D did their best to hold off the Skeeters.

Okay before we get this game started...

Folks are gonna need to realize that Rockwall will move the ball and get their points because they are potent offensively. Jaxon Smith will probably be the best WR we'll see all year. So I don't wanna see any TFF meltdowns.

The reason Longview will win this by 10 however is Rockwall's defense is pretty bad. Much worse than Longview's for anyone who has been paying attention.

Haynes, Kamden, Jessie, Keilyn and the crew roll in this one.

This. This. This.

They are going to move the ball.

They are going to get points.

If you're upset about it, get it out of your system now before Friday. No defense in the state is shutting down this Jacket offense this season. All we have to do is try and limit them.

I honestly think this is the week where the lobo's defense does the unthinkable, shuts down an incredible offensive scoring machine. Also think this week is where Longview will have a stale'ish (that even a word?) offensive production.. Role reversal, defense will show king that he and they can have a weird night and still roll against anyone. Lobo 42-28..

Lobos just got to get out of their own way. The high snaps, putting the ball on the ground, DBs getting turned around, LBs stepping into the wrong gaps. We gotta cut out this trifling stuff that has (at times) made games more competitive than they need to be. Rockwall is gonna score. Put aside any thoughts of a shutout or even a shutdown. They're gonna get their yards and points. But the key is how we respond when they do...

DEFENSE: gotta have the composure to shake it off when they give up a score. Play your assignments and be physical. Rockwall ain't gonna back down. They don't care about your ranking or your record or your hype. They really believe they can beat you. Prove them wrong.

OFFENSE: line has GOT to step up. Them big boys need to get nasty. I'm still waiting on this. Right now we're establishing the pass to set up the run, but that won't fly in the post-season. Get Keilyn the ball in space. Batter the d-line with Jessie. Kamden Perry. Kamden Perry. Kamden Perry. But don't worry about that "other" receiver. Yeah, just don't worry about him one bit. 😉

P.S. I hope young King and his center stay after practice EVERYDAY this week JUST doing shotgun snaps. Ridiculous to have this still happening this late in the year. It's a mental error that creates a horrible negative momentum swing. Those exchanges should be automatic.

Longview has the edge on talent, but it's gonna come down to execution. If the Lobos play their game and avoid the silly mistakes, they win this'n but 20.

This is the really the only thing I'm really unpleased with. Cox had a stellar sophomore year at the C position..  evidently did nothing over the summer because he did not get better from last year snapping the ball. I mean, how do you over snap 6'3 so often? I understand a shorter QB but 6'3?

I'd give him one more game to prove himself. If it's not looking pretty, stick someone else in there and move him over to guard next year or something since he can actually block well at least. We have others who can snap a ball.

Just need to get it fixed.

Yep, I'm sure there's a perfectly rational reason for it, but we just gotta get it fixed. The kid has the talent, just needs to lock this down. It's all good.

Snaps have been an issue all season long. It cost us points against Lufkin and last night it cost us in more ways than one.

Have to get it fixed. It really is the only weak point of our offense. No reason these snaps should be costing us plays much less points (or giving the other team points).

Dunno why this thread was even made. I was informed earlier tonight that Longview is a joke with no chance of winning this game.

I have a conspiracy theory that TFF is actually a brilliant satirical troll created by @Quick to illustrate the whimsical volatility of Lobo fair-weather fans, while also acting as a sort of "court jester" who needles the faithful.

Don't have a lot of evidence for it, just a hunch.  :tinfoil:

It’s too bad Starling left.defense really could have used him! Not even sure he’s on Roster at Killeen Shoemaker? What happened? Plus they are awful !

To be honest... I know more about football then you think... just seeing the nonsensical logic that the lobos dont have big issues on defense is comical. Haynes  makes up for all the issues.... it’s fine when we play teams that are all 5a but when the first team with an offense just as good and a decent defense then it will be obvious. Lobos are also pretty thin at a lot of positions. Now we are talking about a championship team right? That’s the goal??? Ok then, the defense cant get gashed soo  easily! Yes they make a couple plays but overall teams get huge chunk plays! Until that is stopped it will be there doom down the road. Longview’s offense is good baring an injury to any of the skill guys.

We will see! 4-0 is 4-0.... the goal is championship though! Team defense needs to get way better if they want to reach that goal!

They have played 4 5a teams... decent 5a teams but still 5a. That needs to change if you want to get ready for playoffs in years to come.

TFF, I don't think anyone is questioning your knowledge per se. For all I know, you could be John Madden on a lithium bender.

But there is something to be said for having realistic standards about the capabilities of teenagers. The game of football has evolved, and the only defenses that are pitching shutouts in 6A are playing cupcakes. It doesn't help to lose your mind at the first sign of adversity.

Try to relax a little. Enjoy it more. There ain't too many fanbases who are privileged enough to deal with the "struggles" that Longview has.

I promise you that no amount of freaking out on the Internet will make our linebackers taller.

Still waiting on the official stats from the LNJ before I can say much about the records.

But, we do know Haynes tied the passing TD record with 5 and Kamden tied the receiving TD record with 3.

I have to admit, I'm expecting some more records to be broken with us facing this Rockwall defense that has constantly game after game giving up 80+ yard bombs to two Arlington teams that are no where near as good as us.
