GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Revenge was one word Lobo fans used heading into it's Week 7 match up against Mesquite Horn. The word was used after Longview's lone regular season loss last night at the hand of those Horns Jags, in a 52-34 beat down. Since that loss, Longview has not suffered a regular season blemish. That mark would continue after the Lobos got the revenge they wanted, to the tune of 50-3 over the Jaguars on Friday night at Lobo Stadium. Longview needed less than two minutes to set the tone as Kamden Perry broke tackle after tackle and went the distance from 60 yards out. The win improved Longview to 6-0 for the first time since 2005, and has the Lobos in prime position for not only a playoff spot, but the district championship. Longview sits as the only undefeated team in district play after Mesquite's dominating victory over the Stallions of North Mesquite. Looking forward for Longview, the Lobos head back to Rockwall to take on the Heath Hawks. Longview returns to the Wilk after a bye week and a 42-35 victory over Heath's crosstown rival, Rockwall. The victory over the Jackets improved Longview to 6-0 all-time at Wilkerson-Sanders, dating back to their first trip there in 2004. Heath took on those Yellowjackets from across town this past Friday and fell 47-7. The loss dropped the Hawks to 2-5 on the season, as Heath stares a losing season in the eyes after upsetting Rockwall and jumping into a Bi-District playoff round last season for the first time in Class 6A. The Lobos and Hawks will meet for the 5th time this Friday night, with the series dating back to the 2012 season. Heath's closest game in the series came in 2016 when the Hawks jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the Lobos in the first quarter and were primed to extend things before Longview flipped a switch on the first play of the second quarter and raced off to 35 consecutive points in route to a 35-21 victory. The first meeting, in 2012, came at Lobo Stadium in a game that saw Longview rush out to a 49-6 halftime lead. The second visit for Heath to Lobo Stadium, last season, didn't go any better as Longview racked up 443 yards in a 49-7 beat down of the Hawks. The last two seasons, Heath has dominated the first quarter against Longview with a 21-0 overall score line in favor of the Hawks. The rest of the way, Longview has completely flipped script with a 84-7 scoreline in favor of the Lobos. Overall, the Lobos will be looking to take one more step towards a district crown, as three more wins in district play will clinch at least a share of the title.

In 1979, Longview rushed out to a 12-0 victory before Tyler Lee’s William Oliver and Robert Estes each scores touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Two missed PATs saved the Lobos in a 12-12 tie between Longview and Robert E. Lee.

Still waiting for the official stats from last night, but King hit 40 passing touchdowns in a career. 2nd Lobo to ever do that.

Longview first string scored on every possession outside of their 2nd, where King threw three bad passes in a row, two of them likely going for touchdowns if they were on the money.

Overall, Lobos scored on 7 of their 10, with last one having the Lobos kneel the hall on the Horn 10/15 to end the game.

This upcoming game is going to be...just as bad I feel. Heath is a confirmed not good football team. And their schedule has been anything but decent.

No doubt our defense played their best game of the season.

Anytime Horn got anything going on a play, it was due to a hold most times.

Jags have a lot of problems, but Longview definitely made a lot of them last night. Givens had a couple of chances to break free but just couldn't. I thought we defended him exceptionally well.

Early forecast vs Heath on Friday has it at rain, rain and more rain.

We’ve had so much rain in DFW the last six weeks we are well above average and need a break. It’s raining right now..again.....

I hear ya. Was in Arlington this week. Rain and cooler weather makes the games a little more uncomfortable, but I will be there.

Least Friday night won't be in the 40s and rainy like it's suppose to be a lot of this week up here!

Thursday is suppose to be super nice though. Soooo ya know...if King and Moss want to push the game up a day ;)

For what it's worth on the playoff front for 12-6A.

It's basically a lock that Midway and Temple are going Division II. Cove's loss to Killeen just really killed any chance of a playoff race there.

So if we win out, or basically just Heath/North/Lee will lock us into the #1 spot in D2, we'll find out who we face on Week 10 as Temple and Midway face off that week.

A lot of program notes following the 50-3 win over Mesquite Horn -

- Win was John King's 80th overall district victory. Lobos are 80-6 under John King in district games. Longview is currently on a 8-game district winning streak. With 4 games left, Lobos have chance to get to 12 in a row, which would mark the 5th longest streak in school history.
- On another winning streak note, the Lobos have won 12 regular season games in a row now. With four games left, they have a chance to reach 16 regular season wins in a row. Would be the 4th longest streak in program history. King would have two of the top four regular season winning streaks in school history if it happens.
- Lobos improved to 70-24-6 in their 6th game of the season, all-time. 14-1 under John King.
- 47 point difference vs Horn was the largest in the series breaking the previous high of 38 points (52-14 Longview win in 2005).
- This marks is the 17th 6-0 start to a season in Longview history, and 3rd under John King. Just Longview's 7th 6-0 start since the 1980 season (39 seasons).
- 438 points scored on Horn in the series history after a 50 point spot was put up last night. 438 points is good for 10th most against one program in school history.
- This marked the 62nd time the Lobos had reached 50 or more points in school history. 38 of them under John King.
- 50 points last night gives Longview 284 for the season, most through 6 games in program history (2016 had 281 before falling off their pace).
- Last night marked the 5th consecutive game Longview has scored 40 or more points. Lobos have scored 30 or more points in 6 straight, 20 or more in 43 straight and 10 or more points in 79 straight games. Longview has escaped being shut out for 195 consecutive games dating back to 2003, longest such run in school history.

Great stuff.

Does Heath still run the single wing?

They were more open last year, and it's about the same this year.

Lots of rumblings that Moss is on his way out after this season.

If the defense plays on Friday the way they played last night, this will be a blowout.

I don't even think the defense has to play like they did Friday for this being a blow out tbh. Rockwall Heath is an awful football team.
