Salvation by Grace

By: Jim Crews

I’m sure that everyone in here knows that salvation is freely offered to us through the Grace of God.

Ephesians 2: 8 - 9

We have all sinned, and all of us have suffered spiritual death which condemns our souls to eternal destruction is something is not done to correct this situation.

Romans 3: 23

Romans 6: 23

None of us can earn our salvation because we all sin and are all unworthy. However, salvation by grace does not mean that obedience to God is not required.

God’s grace has appeared to all men.

Titus 2: 11 - 14

This shows the universality of His Grace. If grace alone is all that is needed, then all men will be saved. However this passage simply shows us that God’s goodness is extended to all humanity. His gift is freely OFFERED to all humanity.

Some will profit, by accepting God’s terms. Most will be lost regardless of opportunity, because they refuse God’s terms.

Matthew 7: 13 - 14

God’s grace teaches. It was by grace that the revelation of God’s Will was made known to Paul.

Ephesians 3: 1 - 3

As we study and learn His revealed Will in His Word, we too will grow in grace and knowledge.

II Peter 3: 18

Humanity is hopelessly lost in the desert of sin. The way of life God provides for us and makes known to us is a manifestation of His Grace, no matter how much obedience He requires of us.

We must grow and learn to deny ungodliness and worldly lust. The old ways must be rooted out. Our selfish attachments to this world must be replaced by better goals.

God does not take away our appetite for sin. However, by His Grace He teaches us to deny those appetites.

Matthew 16: 24 - 26

Live soberly, righteously, and godly. These are the positive teachings of God’s grace. Neither the positive or negative aspects of the passage are all inclusive. They simply summarize the teaching of grace. They clearly show that God expects action from us.

While we are alive in this present world, we have the opportunity to access His grace.

II Corinthians 6: 2

Now is the day of salvation means it is now or never. There is no second chance after death. There is no other age coming after Judgment Day. We will all be judged on that day by the things we have done while we were alive.

II Corinthians 5: 9 - 10

Jesus is our hope. His appearing signals the end of our journey here and our reception into our heavenly home. Hope, which is made possible by God’s grace, is an anchor of the soul. It is both steadfast and sure. It sustains us in times of trial.

Hebrews 6: 19

Jesus freely gave Himself for us. This was the only price by which we could be justified in God’s sight. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. He redeemed us from our sins. Why?

To purify to Himself a people, a peculiar people, a special kind of people, a people especially shaped and molded to be God’s own possession. A people zealous of good works.

I Peter 2: 9

Grace teaches that, and God has every right to expect it. Therefore, we are saved by grace.

The grace of God is motivation for faithful service to Him. It is freely offered as His gift to all who will accept it. His free gift has to be accepted by us. We can reject this gift and burn eternally after death.  How do we accept God’s freely offered gift?

We must first hear about it.

Romans 10: 14 - 17

We must believe what we have heard. We must then believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the prophesied Messiah sent to die for our sins.

John 3: 16

John 8: 24

Then, like all who we can read about in Scripture who were saved by God’s grace, we must obey the commands He requires of us.

John 3: 36

Hebrews 5: 9

This obedience by us does nothing to earn our salvation. We are simply unworthy servants doing as our King has commanded.

Luke 17: 10

Our King commands us to repent of our past sins.

Luke 13: 3

The apostles teach this to us in their writings.

Acts 17: 30 - 31

Our King commands us to confess our faith in Him publicly.

Matthew 10: 32 - 33

The apostles teach this to us in their writings.

Romans 10: 9 - 10

Our King commands us to be immersed in water to have our past sins washed away.

Mark 16: 16

The apostles teach this in their writings.

Acts 2: 38

Acts 22: 16

The immersion in water is our final step in accepting the freely offered gift of God’s grace. The immersion in water washes away all our past sins.

Romans 6: 3 - 4

Colossians 2: 11 - 13

Titus 3: 4 - 7

I Peter 3: 21

Following this, we must remain faithful unto death, no matter what obstacles we may find in our path.

Revelation 2: 10

We won’t magically lose all our lusts. We won’t magically stop sinning. It is a work to which we must grow and strive to obtain. God knows this. He knows we will continue to sin. He knows that living sinless is so far above our ability that He tells us even to make the claim to be sinless is a lie.

I John 1: 8

Now, though, that we are obedient children, we have another avenue of cleansing. When we sin, we repent of that sin and pray to God confessing that sin to Him and asking for His forgiveness.

Acts 8: 22

I John 1: 9

He will forgive us every single time.

This avenue, though, is open only to those who have heard, repented, confessed, and been immersed in water. Have you? Do you believe what you have heard today? If so, why not obey? Now is the time.
