GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Undefeated. Come rain or sunshine, and it's been a lot of rain lately, the Lobos woke up on Saturday morning still perfect on the 2018 season. Longview moved to 7-0 for the first time in 13 years following a convincing 48-10 victory over the Rockwall Heath Hawks in their second visit to Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium this season. The Lobos also moved to 5-0 all-time against the Hawks, and 7-0 all-time at the Wilk. The Lobos are riding high this season, and have recorded 13 consecutive regular season victories, dating back to their 2017 loss to open district play against Mesquite Horn. Overall, the Lobos are 17-1 when Haynes King starts at quarterback, with the only loss coming to Waco Midway last year in the 2017 6A Division II State Semi-Finals. The Lobos continued their push towards the post season by opening up a 21-0 lead on the Hawks, a holding a 27-10 halftime lead before shutting things down in the 2nd half and rolling to that 48-10 scoreline. It was the second consecutive game the Lobos avoided punting the ball. Longview's last punt came on the very first drive of the Rockwall game a month ago. It was also the 6th consecutive game that Longview has held the opponent scoreless in the 4th quarter. The Lobos are outscoring their opponents 64-7 in the 4th quarter this season, with Lufkin's touchdown in the very first game of the year being the lone score against. Overall, Longview is outscoring its opponents 159-53 in the 2nd half of games this season. Next up for Longview is North Mesquite. A foe that had a bit of a turnaround to start the season, but has since fallen on back to back losses to drop to 1-2 in district play. Fighting for their playoff lives, the Stallions come into Lobo Stadium having lost the last 5 meetings with Longview. North's last win came in 2010, when a 14-3 Lobo lead heading into the 4th quarter went away quickly as Joe Bergeron and the Stallions knocked off Longview 24-14. That win for North ended Longview's 36-game district winning streak, stretching eight seasons. Since then though, the Lobos have completely controlled every meeting against North Mesquite. North's only lead in those five games came in 2013, when the Stallions grabbed a 3-0 lead after 1 quarter. Since losing to North, Longview has outscored the Stallions 228-80, including last year's 41-7 victory. Overall, Longview has won 9 of the 10 meetings against North since the two teams first became district teammates in 2004. North Mesquite has not won in Longview since a 1988 meeting, when the Stallions walked away with a 28-14 victory. Fun fact though...North Mesquite is the only MISD school to have won at new Lobo Stadium (Mesquite did win at Lobo Stadium, but it was in 1964..over a decade before the current Lobo Stadium was built). The Lobos come into the contest looking to clinch a playoff berth for the 18th consecutive season. Longview last missed the post season in 2000, when the Lobos finished 3-7 and 1-4 in district play (despite all four losses being with two scores). A win would also give Longview it's 15th consecutive season of 8 or more wins in a season.

In 1984, Joe Johnson rushed over from one yard in the 3rd quarter and Eric Harris did the same in the 4th as Longview shut out Marshall, 14-0, at Maverick Stadium. Longview was held to -2 passing yards on the night in the win.

In 2012, Desmond Chumley threw for four touchdowns in the first quarter and a half, while the Lobo defense held the Stallions to just 145 yards on the night, in a 52-3 Longview beatdown of North Mesquite at Lobo Stadium. Longview has tallied 332 points this season after last night's 48-point output vs Heath.

Only 20 seasons of the 108 previous seasons of Lobo football have tallied more than this team....and we've only played 7 games.

The 2016 team had the most points ever scored in a regular season with 451 points tallied in 10 games. So 119 points away with three games to go.

Couple of notes -
Longview won their 7th road game in a road (2017-2018), their best stretch since winning 11 in a row from 2003 to 2005.
Longview won their 13th regular season game in a row, longest since 2005. 3 games left, still a chance to hit 16, which would mark the 3rd longest streak in school history.
Longview has not punted since the first drive of the Rockwall game, just about a month ago. Lobos have just a total of 5 punts all season long, with 2 of them coming against Lufkin.

I’m pretty sure this is super early to ask but based on recent history where do you think or what have heard about where Longview could possibly play in the first round of the playoffs?

Another note after updating our season stats.

Longview has kept it extremely even this season (1,801 on ground, 1,872 through the air). But defensively, our D has been outstanding against the run. We're 7 games into the season, team has still yet to allow 1,000 yards rushing. 985 rushing yards given up, only 1,376 passing yards given up as well.

And just to show the dominance when it comes to punts. Opponents have punted 23 times against Longview (in comparison to our 5).

Longview sits at a +3 in the turnover department...and I can't remember the last time Longview had a team where the opponent actually had more penalty yardage instead of the Lobos. Opponents have 376 penalty yards to Longview's 326.

Longview will get home advantage if they win their next two games.

November 2nd will decide who comes to the 'View...unless something crazy happens this week, it'll be Waco Midway or Temple.

I'll have the 12-6A and Region II outlook posted on here and on 6A on Sunday.

Record updates for Perry and King --

Perry is only the 4th player to register 10 or more receiving touchdowns in a single season. He's 3 away from the school record in an entire season, just 7 games in.
Career record is still a bit away, but he very well could catch it. He sits at 15 career receiving TDs, school records is 22.
He sits at 746 yards on the season. He's 248 yards away from the school record for receiving yards in a season.

Haynes King hit the 20 passing TD mark last night for the season, 2nd time for him to reach that mark in his Lobo career. First ever quarterback for Longview to ever hit two seasons of 20 or more passing touchdowns.
King is 12 passing touchdowns away from tying the school record of 33 in a season.
King is up to 46 passing career TDs. He's now 16 passing scores away from tying the record of 62 overall.
He sits at exactly 1,800 passing yards on the season. He's 622 passing yards from breaking the schools record of 2,422 set by Caraway in 2011.

How can Horn be projected to be in the playoffs when they have not won a game much less a district game? There are teams ahead of them right?
