EnjoyLife
I guess what I am really asking is "What does Jesus think about capitalism?" Capitalism is predicated on the desire for personal gain and the idea that greed is good. These things seem diametrically opposed to Christian teachings warning against the love of money and treasuring things that moths and rust destroy. I am asking from a purely theological perspective...not from a political pov or to debate the merits of capitalism vs any other economic system. What do you think? DaveTV1
Capitalism is based on working hard, and moving up the ladder which are compatible with Christ's teachings. We are taught to deal fairly and honestly with all of our fellow man. Christ never spoke of Socialism, because it does not work, unless everyone could collectively without backbiting, and demanding more than they deserve. With the carnal flesh that we are born into that is impossible as proven by Socialism. Instead we are taught to give to the poor, and many businesses do. Of course if a business isn't making a profit, or providing a living for the proprietor then one can not expect them to be generous with their donations. Even the Lord only expects 10% of our earnings. It is only wrong if a business is only looking out for their shareholders profits, and not providing for the community. It's also not very good business, because giving to the community builds word of mouth and in essence is advertising. I know that every company that I have worked for has been big on donating to the community, because it builds a solid reputation that you aren't there just to make money, but to be involved in the lives of people. DaveTV1
This man is wonderful, and he's doing it again this year. You can follow him on facebook, but he's proving it again this year. This man is the epitome of Capitalism and Christian values/teachings working together. .If you don't think it works, then you're blind.
EnjoyLife
There is no doubt that capitalism creates more material wealth than any other economic system. That is not a bad thing unless it tempts people to put their trust in the things of man (ie...money) rather than putting trust in God.
KirtFalcon
Very good read on this subject, with many related scriptures: https://www.ucg.org/the-good-news/christianity-and-capitalism-do-they-go-together
Monte1076
Capitalism as a system, by its very nature, is amoral. Note I didn't say immoral. There's a difference. The difference is how it's practiced. You can be a very Christian person, and engage in capitalism. At least that's my opinion. Otherwise, Christians would never be able to start and run businesses, right?

I do not think capitalism is necessarily un-Christian...but I do think it can lead some people to idolatry (worshipping money/material things etc). It actually touched on the verses (Acts 2:44-45) that got me to thinking about this subject.
