TxFight
1) Eliminate divisions from every conference. Everyone plays 9 conference games. It will not be perfect this way, but it will give us a clearer picture of a true conference champion even without everyone in the SEC playing each other. 2) Every conference has a conference championship between the top 2 records. And now to the actual playoff format. 6* Automatic bids-Every P5 conference winner gets in. The highest ranked G5 conference winner gets in. (Clay Travis says they need to be undefeated but i disagree) 2* At-large bids of the remaining teams. I really like this model. The regular season becomes even more important now than it is currently. Only guarantee to make it is to win your conference. To win your conference you have to be in the top 2 at the end of the year, which means most likely no more than 1 conference loss. It also guarantees that there are consistently 2 at-large bids. So this year we are looking at a playoff of these 8 teams. 1 Alabama (SEC) 2 Clemson (ACC) 3 Notre Dame (At-Large) 4 Oklahoma (Big 12) 5 Georgia (At-Large) 6 Ohio State (Big 10) 7 UCF (G5) 8 Washington (Pac 12) Last year we would have had a playoff of... 1 Clemson (ACC) 2 Oklahoma (Big 12) 3 Georgia (SEC) 4 Alabama (At Large) 5 Ohio State (Big 10) 6 Wisconsin (At Large) 7 USC (Pac 12) 8 UCF (G5)
RETIREDFAN1
It is NOT a true playoff if EVERY conference champion is not represented.......

That's not how Merriam-Webster defines playoff. And I'd dare to say their definition of anything is more important and accepted than yours.

TTman7
It's not perfect by any means, but the Division I FCS playoff system is pretty good...24 teams participate. It includes a mixture of automatic bid Conference Champions, at-large bids, and first round byes. https://www.ncaa.com/championships/football/fcs/road-to-the-championship
