The Lobos return to the fateful round of last season’s disappointing loss that saw the Lobos have two tries at field goals to push themselves into the 6A Division II State Championship, only for both field goals to be missed and for Waco Midway to advance to a spot that the Lobos felt was rightfully their’s. The redemption tour continued for Longview, as they knocked out one of the toughest defensive units they’ve faced all season with a 14-0 victory over Spring Westfield at Waco ISD Stadium. The win marked Longview’s first playoff victory at Waco ISD, after falling to South Garland in 2003 in overtime and to Pflugerville on the exact date in the exact round 11 years ago in 2007. It was anything but pretty for the first time this season on offense for the Lobos. Longview was held to season lows in all categories outside of first downs, but the Lobos overcame and for the first time this season counted on their defense to bring home the W for them. Longview held the Mustangs to a mere 100 total yards on the night, and just seven first downs overall, in their first shut out of an opponent since 2015. The shut out also marked Longview’s first playoff shut out since a 24-0 victory over Tomball in 2010. The win propels Longview into the State Semi-Finals for the second straight year and the ninth time overall in school history. It will be Longview’s 5th Semi-Final trip in 15 seasons under head coach John King. On the other side of things, a completely new opponent and a completely new area that Longview has never faced a team from. Amarillo Tascosa got the big upset victory out in Lubbock with a 48-27 victory over previously undefeated Haltom. The Rebels advanced to the State Semi-Finals for the first time since 1964, after knocking off their second undefeated team in the post season, which includes Arlington and Haltom. The four playoff victories in a season is the most in Tascosa football history. Their last tripe to the State Semi-Finals included back to back losses to Garland in 1963 and 1964. Since falling to Garland 21-7 in 1964, the Rebels had made the quarterfinals just twice (1966 & 1967) and had advanced past the Area round just once (2015). This will be Tascosa’s first ever trip to AT&T Stadium, while Longview will be returning to the land of Jerry Jones for the third time after defeating Wylie 35-14 in 2015 and then falling to Mansfield Lake Ridge in 2015, 56-53, on a missed field goal in the final seconds. It’s sure to be a barn burner as the Rebels look to advance to their first ever State Championship while Longview is looking to return for the first time since 2009, and for their fifth trip overall. bluetopper
Who y'all favor in this one? Tascosa runs the flexbone triple option to perfection.
YourKillinMePetey
Longview will definitely have the edge in all the measurables but I watched that Haltom-Tascosa game and Tascosa is very good at what they do. Longview’s defensive staff will be pulling a lot of late nights getting ready for the flexbone.

Thanks for the kind words! Tascosa runs, from what I've seen, the flexbone or a variation of it. They're physical and disciplined up front, and they run the ball about 88% of the time. They've lost to some less-than-stellar teams but also just beat 13-0 Haltom by 21 points. I don't think they have the defense to stop Longview's offense, but if their offense starts grinding, they could really slow the game down and keep Longview off the field. I do think we're strong up front on defense and can compete with that offense.

bluetopper
Longview has to get in the backfield quick and cause some disruption. Their QB runs that offense like he’s been doing it his whole life. They have a Purdue commit that can bust free at anytime. I think they’re a team that really jelled at mid-season. randomuser
The last 4 opponents thought they would roll over Tascosa. 4 days isn’t very much time to prepare for the triple O. Lobo defense better be disciplined or this will stop their run for a SC. Must be very disciplined.
kildog84
Cheering for both teams , friends on longview and ex Kilgore QB as head coach for Tascosa . Longview sure is strong this year and will be hard to stop .
