Sweeny has a history of pulling out games late......especially when the pitchers are not at their best.  That's what good teams do........they take advantage of any mistakes their opponents might make.   Didn't see the game so don't really know what kind of situations Carthage found themselves in late.  But it's never over until the last out.

This is true.

Carthage stranded 14 in the game.  In the bottom of 7th we walked 3, hit one, and the winning run scored on a passed ball.  Multiple pitchers involved in the inning.  Heart breaking loss.

It's definitely a tough way to end the season.......a bitter pill for the team to swallow.  Sounds like they didn't capitalize on numerous opportunities throughout the game when they had Sweeny against the wall.   And Sweeny stayed close enough somehow.......perhaps by making plays to get out of threatening situations.  And finally........the mistakes came back to bite Carthage in the last inning........they let victory slip thru their fingers.  It happens in baseball at all levels.

Sorry for the seniors.........for the rest it will be a character builder and a learning experience for next season, for sure.  It will hurt for a loong time, but they are young and will become even better players and better men because of it.   Congrats to Sweeny for hanging in there til the Fat Lady sang.

I’ll be looking for Kilgore to do their job. Always back my district. Spring Hill out.  Kilgore gets Benbrook and their rowdy fans. 🥶

hate to see Carthage lose like they did. Good season.

Spring Hill will be back. An all junior and sophomore team returning. No seniors. And some great kids coming up.

Welp nice season Carthage!

Just Kilgore stands in 4A let's see if they can make some noise and history.

Go Kilgore Dogs! Since Carthage is out, than I wish our fellow dogs the best of luck!

Carthage had a GREAT team. Definitely one of the best we’ve seen all year. The Leach kid is as good of a hitter (especially at this age) as I’ve seen in a long time. They have nothing to be ashamed of. Their pitching in the first game (game 2) was fantastic....as was Kiddy’s pitching from Sweeny. Game 3 was basically a game of attrition. Sweeny’s scheduled 3rd starter and all around great player, Nathan Nance, was home with a bad illness. This forced  Sweeny to use some guys who haven’t been on the mound in over 2 months....including 2 JV kids. They did a great job of keeping it close enough to give the (blue) Dogs a chance......and then the implosion happened...

Congrats Carthage on a helluva year.

Congrats to Sweeny for moving on.
