Wins in the last 2 decades (in East Texas from 6A to 4A)...2000 to 2018

Gilmer - 213
Longview - 195
Carthage - 184
Lufkin - 181
Kilgore & Texas High - 157
Jasper - 150
Van - 147
John Tyler - 144
Liberty-Eylau - 135
Henderson - 130
Pleasant Grove & Sulphur Springs - 123
Caddo Mills & Marshall - 121
Canton - 120
Paris - 114
Lindale - 111
Whitehouse - 110
Fairfield & Tyler Lee - 109
Pittsburg - 108
Chapel Hill - 106
Wills Point - 105
Palestine - 101
Hallsville & Rusk & Spring Hill - 97
North Lamar - 95
Jacksonville - 90
Center - 89
Brownsboro - 85
Athens - 78
Bullard - 74
Mount Pleasant - 71
Nacogdoches - 69
Pine Tree - 53
Mabank - 46
Huntington - 22

Only 3 programs have reached 90 or more wins in a decade the last two decades in 6A and 5A in East Texas..
- Lufkin 108 (2000-2009)
- Texas High 93 (2000-2009)
And you guessed it...Longview...twice.
- 97 (2000-2009)
- 98 (2010-2018)

(And just to throw it in for 4A, only Gilmer and Carthage have reached over 90 wins in a decade on that level as well. Gilmer with 112 in 2000-2009 and in 2010-2018 with 101. Carthage with 108 in 2010-2018).

(Note: John Tyler should reach the 90 wins or more in a decade mark this season as they sit at 89 from 2010 to 2018)

You can say Longview has underachieved some if you wanted...but we're the only program in the area, other than Gilmer, that has averaged 10 wins over the last 20 seasons, and we will reach that point again this year unless something horrendous occurs.

We've lost some playoff games we should've won. Every program does. And yes, we didn't bring home the final prize until last season. But Longview is anything but overrated, especially among East Texas schools.

Off topic, but I can't help but laugh at Huntington in last, with not even half of what 2nd to last has.

In the case of Longview I think it’s just the fan base hat has crazy expectations. You don’t usually see Longview starting out the season ranked #1 or everybody statewide picking them to win state.

I think a lot of seasons Longview overachieves based on realistic expectations. It’s just some of the fans and posters on this site that think they should win state every year.

Probably gonna make some folks mad, but over the last few years, I feel like Alto has been overrated. They manage to be picked in the top ten in all the preseason polls, but haven’t really lived up to it. Curious to see if they turn things around this year.

One season?

Since 2004, 168-36 (84-6), 13 district titles, 3 state appearances, 1 ship, 2 semifinal appearances, 2 quarterfinal appearances.. all of this in the 5A/6A class as a non-suburban school mind you.

How is that overrated?

ANTI, we’ve told you before to quit worrying about Metroplex/suburban DFW schools like Longview doesn’t have the athletes to compete against them. Lobos have always had the athletes just needed to start throwing the ball effectively.

Longview gets a quality QB and magically they win a state championship. Coincidence??? No.

Please drop the victim act. Longview isn’t fighting some massive uphill battle against DFW and Houston area 6A schools. Your school is the big boy East Texas school. The best big school in East Texas.

There’s a whole #BeastTexas thing that’s been floating around for years now. So, please stop. Longview is awesome, quit being scared.

No one is scared lol I'm speaking facts.

You wouldn't understand where I'm coming from...yall aren't facing the burbs every year.

If you think it's easy, I'd suggest watching more big school football. All I can tell you.

And let's not act like we havent had a quality QB before and still fell victim to the burbs. Bivins Caraway comes to mind.

I'll tell you what, since the burbs are so easy, name 10 other non suburban big schools with accolades that match LV's. I'll wait.

Well, you just keep waiting and don’t hold your breath!

That’s part of what I’m saying though, Longview is East Texas not West Texas. Longview has the horses and doesn’t have to be from a suburban ISD to win; last year is proof of this.

Agree with LP for sure-according to their fans they are winning state every year. They haven't been close to a power team in 10 years now.

JT to some extent-Both LP and JT especially in 5a(before the split divisions) were the biggest schools in the district by a lot so the expectation should have been to win the district and go deep in the playoffs. They didn't exactly dominate while they were there.

JT didn't make deep playoff runs?

This is a ridiculous statement lol. Since 2010-2018 JT won district every year in 5A except for 2015 and was codistrict champs in a 6A district when no one thought they would make the playoffs 2016. JT since 2010 has went to 3 semifinals, 2 quarterfinals, and to the third round. JT was basically a lock to go to region 2 championship every year outside of 2015 and 2017. I don’t know what you are talking about lol. Don’t get us mixed up with those Lufkin folks lol.

The topic is most overrated. That to me means that they just don’t live up to expectations consistently. Doesn’t mean they ####. Just not what people think.

For example, i think Daingerfield is a terrific program but also at this point in time overrated. That’s bc they think they can or should win state every year. They aren’t that level these days, but are still a great program that will go multiple rounds each year.

Cant be overrated when there is no hardware in the trophy case... Granted both schools have been an athlete away several times in recent years. Seems like in the small school ranks there is always a bigger fish.

What happened 10 years ago means ZERO in high school football. Using stats from 2009 means nothing right now. The success is normally tied to the coach, look at Carthage before vs since Surratt, Lufkin during the Outlaw time vs what they have done since, Canton since Kinne left, Whitehouse lost McFarland High School football is 3-4 year cycles, there are programs that are able to sustain 10-12 years of performance but it isn't the norm.  So being over rated really goes a few years at a time.

A Nac fan shouldn’t be in this thread talking about any program, especially one that has owned them since dinosaurs was still walking this earth. I’m not going to lie and say we haven’t choked. Lord knows we have for several years. Should definitely have more titles than just one in the trophy case. I think most can agree on that. I don’t agree about that power team comment in ten years. The last two teams, especially the 2017 team that lost to Longview at sfa was more than capable of going to state and winning a title. Only a hater or someone that didn’t watch them would disagree.

This will probably ruffle some feathers....and it's not intended to....but let's go.

My top two...

1) Lufkin...two trips past the second round in the last 13 years. One trip past the third round in those same 13 years. They went from a State Championship team, with trips to the Semi Finals in 3 of 4 years, and have completely fallen off from that expectations since their last trip to the Semis in 2005, despite three years in a lower classification. 18-4 in the playoffs from 2001 to 2005. 7-13 in the post season since (06 to 18). I think their fan base recognizes it, but last season was really made for them to get to the big one, and they weren't able to do it.

2) Marshall...back to back trip to the State Finals in 2004 and 2005. Since, it's been a lot of regular season success (obviously some of those years were some of the worst in program history as well). But they still haven't made it back to even the State Quarterfinals since, despite a lot of hype more recently (and a ton of hype again this season). 8-2 in those 2 playoff years. Since (06 to 18), 8-10 in the post season, with just three trips past the second round...all ending in losses in round 3. Have they had some close calls in the post season (more so the last two seasons in their losses), sure. But with all the hype that the fan base has been excited about, they haven't been able to punch it to the next level.

Lol@ not intended

Literally missed the entire point of my post. Calling Longview overrated, despite the fact that we've been the 2nd most consistent team in the area the last two decades (not even counting the last five decades overall, where we've had four losing seasons in those five decades) is ridiculous.
