Mr. P
Didn't watch the debate, but I logged into social media toward the end of it...Β my left-leaning and moderate friends/relatives seemed to express amusement with Williamson but an overall sense of despair. My hardcore "Bernie bro" cousin actually Tweeted "congrats to Donald Trump on winning the 2020 presidential election." It seems many celebrities expressed similar frustrations:Β Like a 'West Wing' episode f###ed an auction Quote Nearly a dozen Democrat presidential hopefuls took the stage in Detroit, Michigan,Β Tuesday evening for CNNβsΒ presidential debateΒ and the Hollywood left was not impressed. βWeβre five candidates in and so far I feel confident about a Trump re-election,β said actor-comedian Michael Ian Black. HBO host Bill Maher said, βTwo observations: This is going on too long. And Joe Biden is having his best performance!β And that "right-wing echo chamber" Bloomberg News shaded CNN over the debate:Β Can someone please vote CNN off the stage? Quote The CNN moderators, again and again, employed the very worst types of questions. One style that Tapper used repeatedly early on was interrupting to insist that the candidates stick to a portion of a topic that he found interesting (such as whether their health care plans would involve increases in taxes for the middle class) rather than what they wanted to talk about. The night also featured too many gotcha questions, in which a candidate is challenged about something they said.Β But even worse was a constant theme of asking one candidate to fight with another. Candidate X, what do you think of Candidate Yβs plan?Β Those questions have superficial appeal because they appear to get to what separates the candidates. And they promise fireworks, with candidates forced to argue. But in reality, invitation-to-fight questions tend to emphasize the differences that the moderators select, which may or may not be substantively important ones. It leads the debate to focus on areas of internal candidate differences, leaving policy areas where they agree irrelevant β even if those areas are important, and contain real disputes with the other party. There's also a sense that fault lines in the DNC itself are being exacerbated:Β Liberals fight off accusations they are 'impractical' Quote The leading liberal populists in the Democratic presidential primary, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, strenuously fought back against accusations of impracticality and warnings of electoral ruin on Tuesday night, as a group of moderate underdogs sought to dent their momentum in the second round of presidential primary debates. From the first moments on the debate stage, there were charges of βwish-list economicsβ and critiques of βmassive government expansionsβ as the candidates engaged in an unusuallyΒ substantive discussion of health care policy. Gov. Steve Bullock of Montana, appearing in a debate for the first time, took implicit aim at Mr. Sanders by insisting that distressed farmers and teachers could not βwait for a revolution.β And former Representative John Delaney of Maryland conjured electoral catastrophes of the past to argue that the activist left could not be trusted to lead the party. Yep, strange things afoot at the Circle K...

BarryLaverty
Anyone alive when that Trump ran for office and the melee that were the GOP debates? I mean, Herman Cain was on the stage to the end! Trump made fun of Cruz's wife and accused Cruz's father of killing JFK! Rubio and Trump were going to fist fight a couple of times over Trump's 'girth'. Then, in the end, the craziest, most ill equipped, least qualified, unfit candidate won, and somehow brought his insanity to the White House. That was back in 2015-16, for those of you who want to read up on it.Β

Think there are some delusional candidates about their chances, although I am in favor of airing out ideas, 'test ballooning' them, discussing them. Several of them last night basically said that "Washington" was taking money from businesses and special interests. And I'm thinking to myself, "and so are you!!" I say misleading, because I don't quite want to say that they're lying. But they don't seem to mind taking money as long as it benefits them. Frankly, I am waiting for the dust to settle before I make my final decision on who to support as the candidate. I have taken the online 'surveys', which show that most of them currently running fit my political beliefs, while the current POTUS does not. I have read extensively on most of those who I have interest in, including Biden, Warren, Harris, but also Buttigieg and Castro and Beto and Bullock, and I don't have any intention of supporting Bernie. I can predict that probably Biden with an interesting choice for VP will be there, at the end. All are thoughtful and have been public servants and believe in most cases opposite of Trump on immigration, the environment, taxes, public schools, health insurance, women's rights, gender protections, and generally aren't purposely caustic, lying and vile, like I view him. Is that a start?Β

Not just that, but there was a story (fairly) recently about some rapper guy in England who broke all of the Women's powerlifting records over the course of about an hour. Some girls track participants are suffering because "male to female transgender" athletes (who have not yet "transitioned") are beating them at track. There was a story about that recently, too. And it cost a biological female a shot at some sort of championship. Why is this an issue? Because biological males are/can be generally stronger and faster then women. As an example, "Flo-Jo" holds the (disputed) women's 100 meter world record at 10.49 seconds. Christian Coleman, however, has a men's 100 meter time of 9.79 seconds. A full 7 tenths of a second faster.

What about in the cases I listed above? What about a situation like the Colorado baker? Or the young lady who was ineligible for a championship track meet (I believe it was) because a "transgender female" was participating? Or the recent story (in Canada, though it could absolutely happen here) of the "transgender female" (male to female) who wanted a "brazilian wax" and then sued the lady who ran the shop because she wouldn't wax the individual's testicles?
