RETIREDFAN1
The Meaning of Life: Where Are You Going? By: Jim Crews People are always asking the meaning of life. Solomon told us the meaning of life. Ecclesiastes 9:1-10Having a goal in mind gives direction to the choices that you must make. The meaning of life is more than what you are doing with your life right now. It is also where you are letting life take you. Only one thing is certain, we are all going to die. Hebrews 9:27Charlton Heston said, “The world is a tough place. You’re never going to get out of it alive.” Atheism and some other belief systems view death as the end. If so, then meaning to life would revolve around getting the most out of life. However, the verse we just read says there is more than just death awaiting for us. There is a certainty of judgment as well. What does judgment mean? Judgment means we are accountable for how we live our life. Such a belief permeates all religions. The criteria for the judgment varies, but there is always an understanding that what happens after death is determined by how life is lived. God has a purpose for His creation and we are responsible for meeting that purpose. Everyone will be judged by what we have done. II Corinthians 5:10. Everything we have done will be judged, even the things we have done in secret that no one else knows about. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 How we live our lives will determine our eternal destiny. John 5:28-29The criteria we will be judged by is how we live our life. Romans 2:6-11Judgment also means there is more to existence than just this physical life. The righteous will inherit a kingdom prepared for them. Matthew 25:34Eternal life is included in this promise to the righteous. Romans 2:7 The wicked also have a place prepared for them. Matthew 25:41This place is also eternal. Matthew 25:46How do we know what is after death? Because someone has died and has returned to tell us. Acts 17:30-31His death and resurrection is firmly proven. I Corinthians 15:1-8If it were not true, then there would be no hope at all for any of us. I Corinthians 15:12-19Since it is true, then the one who returned from the dead is our judge. I Corinthians 4:3-5The preaching of this is done at Christ’s command. Acts 10:42 A day has been appointed for the judgment. II Timothy 4:1It is not a question of “if” the judgment is coming, but of “when” is it coming? So where are you going? We’ve all sinned. Romans 3:23We are all guilty of sin. I John 1:8, 10If that were the end of the story then each of our destinies would be sealed. Romans 6:23Jesus, however, came for the purpose of offering eternal life. We can be reconciled to God by Jesus’ death. Romans 5:6-10 This was the entire purpose for Him to come to earth and live among His creation. John 3:16 The work was done, but how do you respond to the offer? Listen to God’s teachings. Romans 10:14-17Believe the message. John 8:24 Romans 5:1-2Conform your life to that teaching by repenting of your sins. Acts 3:19Be bold in your belief by publicly confessing your faith that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Matthew 10:32-33Access the gift of Grace by obeying His command. Mark 16: 16 Acts 2:38 Romans 6:3-7It is time to find purpose and meaning in our lives. We’ve all seen cheap goods sold. They sit on the shelves, bright and shiny on the surface, covering the cheap materials underneath. How do you know? You check it out. You investigate it quality. Satan offers a cheap life of pleasure that appears bright and shiny on the surface, but it has no worth. Matthew 7:16-20Investigate for yourselves. What makes life better? What makes it worth living? What follows you into eternity?God has given the answer in His Word. Have you believed Him?
