Last night on the Channel 7 10 o'clock news here in Tyler, a story about the Texas legislature's overreaching control of our children was aired. During the story, a woman, while arguing in favor of this, inadvertently provided me with the PERFECT argument AGAINST it.

Her quote: "Your freedoms are endangering our safety."

Let that sink in.

That is the funniest thing I've heard today. My freedoms are infringing on someone's safety. Did this woman appear to be Russian or some ethnic background where freedom hasn't been allowed ? IMHO, the only people that are afraid of freedom, are those that have not lived it. Has this woman been sheltered all of her life ? Have we become so over protective that we need laws to govern every movement that we make ? I can't help but laugh so hard.

Why are people so afraid ?

Here is a question. What do you think this lady does for a living?

She sounds like a school principal.

She sounds like she sits at home cowering underneath a pillow for the end of times to occur.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if your final judge looked just like that little spotted billy goat you stood up on that dinner date last year?

Wow.... I just replied to this goat humping idiot on the College sports forum. I actually welcomed him...LOL. He made a semi-intelligent post, and I didn't recognize him.

I'll blame it on my allergies. I'm so stopped up I didn't smell the usual JRowe aroma of goat lovin'.

I got this in an e-mail from a friend of mine. I thought I'd pass it along to the SDC political board.

This info came straight from Representative Wayne Christian. #### like this

is why most people think all politicians are just a bunch of self serving

idiots... Read below... (Highlights if you want to scan...)

Look at the bills that were killed due to the stalling tactics of the

liberals!

JH

Christian Update

Many people have seen reports on the news about the stalling tactics used

on the House floor late last week through the middle of this week. Many

Democrats participated in manipulating the House rules in order to prevent

the Voter ID bill from coming to the House floor, and as a result killed

hundreds of important bills that matter to all Texans.

The Local and Consent calendar is a list of bills that have no objection and

are usually local or limited in scope. Because there is usually no reason to

debate them, they appear on a special calendar with special rules that say

if a member asks more than 10 minutes worth of questions, then the bill must

be removed and sent to the Daily House calendar. The intent of this rule is

to allow members to ask questions on a bill if they have legitimate concerns

about its intent, so that in the rare case that a bill is misunderstood, it

can be explained before moving on.

Because these bills are so simple, it is not uncommon to hear 100-200 at a

time. Last Friday, a local calendar was set with 212 bills. Typically a

bill might take 30-60 seconds to lay out and pass. But as soon as the first

bill hit the floor, something different was

happening: a Democrat at the back microphone announced he intended to ask

nine and a half minutes worth of questions. That is just enough questions to

avoid killing the bill, but enough to take the maximum time. Several others

followed suit, and it soon became obvious what they intended to do.

If each of 212 bills on the calendar were spoken on for approximately 10

minutes, it would take at least 45 hours to move through the calendar

including additional inquiries in between bills. The House faced a major

deadline Tuesday at midnight for the passage of important bills. Before we

could even get to the Voter ID bill, we were required to finish the Local

and Consent calendar, and then continue work on two major bills that are

highly controversial: the top 10% bill and the unemployment insurance bill.

Committee testimony on the Voter ID bill estimated that an average of 1,000

voters per legislative district might not be able to vote under the

requirements of this bill. That is to say, up to 1,000 people in each

members district cannot prove that they are here legally. That is the only

statistic we need to prove why one party was so insistent on killing this

bill, no matter what the tactics, no matter what the costs.

Just as telling is the fact that almost 70 percent of Texans want the Voter

ID bill. But that doesn't matter to Democrats, who would no longer be able

to steal elections through the efforts of voter-registration groups like

ACORN if voters had to prove they who they were when they showed up to vote.

These valuable bills were at risk or killed as a result of the wasted time:

* Property tax relief for disabled veterans, SB 469;

* Health insurance coverage for children, SB 66;

* A bill limiting the authority of government to seize a person's home

or land, an eminent domain bill, SB 18;

* A bill promoting better air quality, SB 16;

* A bill providing increased coastal protections to consumers as we

approach another hurricane season, Windstorm Bill, SB 14;

* A bill affording greater protections for abused children, SB 786;

* A bill increasing services for children with autism, SB 1217;

* A bill helping prosecute organized street gangs, SB 11

So North Dakota voted it down...wondered about that.

I'm not exactly sure I understand what they're saying on how to replace it...and I'm sure it's a lot more detailed and complicated than a one-pager, but it'll be interesting.

And that's definitely the problem, how to replace it. As to the business Q&A at the bottom, again, I'm not exactly understanding, but it looks to me they're going after companies like Amazon.com, etc.

Property tax in Texas is controlled by the assessment.

Several years ago the legislature went through a big hassle to freeze/reduce property taxes. The state representatives were sooooo proud of themselves for this alleged major accomplishment of reducing the tax rate. But did anyone see their property taxes go down? Of course not.

It's a joke to say that property is appraised. The taxing entities figure out how much they want or need & property is assessed at an rate that will produce this amount of tax revenue.

Amazingly however, some property always seems to lag behind and never gets assessed quite as highly as comparable property.

Who says it's not who you know that's important?

^ Ye gads..... you posted a topic, has nothing whatsoever to do with doubting it, but I would imagine there's a lot more to it than that... if you're going to believe something from a one-paged article summing it up, uhhh...hook, line and sinker comes to mind.

Personally I think it'd be a great idea, but what replaces it may or may not be.

Jeesh, almighty, Hares, you can't even have a regular conversation anymore...how about some honey with that venom?
