The Alto Yellowjackets travel to Timpson to take on the Bears in a 10-2A vs 11-2A showdown. The Mean Sting survived a close one with the Westwood Panthers, winning 28-20 at home. The Bears fell to Hemphill 56-39. Last year the Jackets took this one 51-27.

I predict the black and gold team will win! Lol Jacket victory! Hope we can reduce our penalties and put our best foot forward this week. Good luck to both teams.

FYI:  Some info. on Timpson since I don’t believe there is a poster from Bear Country: (by Colton Bragg | The Light & Champion)

Timpson

The Timpson Bears were just able to earn a playoff berth last year. With teams like Garrison, Joaquin, and Tenaha, the Bears were forced to fight for every inch in district last year.

The Bears were able to earn a playoff spot and even turned some heads when they defeated the Joaquin Rams, who ended the year in second place.

Timpson was edged out in the Bi-District round by the San Augustine Wolves.

With seven returning on offense and six on defense, Timpson will be bringing experience to the field. The biggest hurdle for the Bears will be replacing Jordan Osby at running back. Osby was crucial to the Bears’ 2018 run, racking up over 4000, that’s not a typo, 4000 yards rushing. In addition, Osby was responsible for 58 rushing touchdowns last year.

Though the Bears may not be able to field a Jordan Osby caliber player, I have no doubt that head coach Kerry Therwhanger will put his team in the best position to win.

The Bears will need to come together as a team to fill the void left by Osby. Expect Kobe Grogan and Trey Keggler to see more action on offense and look for Tre’ Davis and Braden Courtney to be leaders on defense.

Timpson is still in play for a postseason spot, but they will certainly have to work for it.

Whatever happened to Coach Gamble?

I should probably know this, but I don’t! Last stop I remember was when he was assisting his son, Lance, at Beckville. Lance is now at Lufkin and Brian is at LA Tech. I bet wherever he is that he’s enjoying watching his sons do their thing! Great coach. 👍

I believe Lucky resides somewhere near Carthage. I visited with him at a few games last year.

That’s great! We visited with him at The Rose the night the Gambles (Beckville) beat us in the playoffs back in 2015, but haven’t seen him in awhile. I’ll always remember the time he was here with great fondness and a lot of appreciation.

This week I feel like we will learn about several teams. This outcome is no different. Is Alto back to being Alto? Or are the Young ballers in Timpson ready for the spotlight?.... I for one truly don’t know how this one turns out.... I’m 50/50 on it. Can’t wait for the result

👍don’t know him. Our former AD was from Groveton and he had some funny stories about him. Sounded like a cool dude.

He will always be an Icon in the history of our program. I know guys that still love him like a father in this town. He was no nonsense, but he genuinely loved the kids who played for him and they all knew that.

That’s what this guy said. That and that his son Brian would knock your head off lol

He was a master at motivating even the average athlete to play above average consistently. He knew exactly where to put kids and how to use them. Yessir, Brian would clean your clock. He was a man amongst boys lol. I will never forget the 1st day I laid eyes on him and someone said he’s only in the 8th grade lol. I’ve got some HS stories too, lol, but I’ll take em to the grave. Definitely had a great HS experience just being around the Gambles and the core group of guys that were in that circle of friends in the mid to late 90’s. Good times.
