LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES 09.02.2006 - West Monroe 19, Longview 15 - Independence Stadium 09.03.2005 - Longview 21, West Monroe 0 - Independence Stadium 10.07.1960 - West Monroe 8, Longview 6 - Lobo Stadium 10.09.1959 - West Monroe 13, Longview 7 - Rebel StadiumFULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW Not many teams in the state of Texas can walk into Rose Stadium, have 12 penalties coupled with four turnovers and end up pitching a 42-0 shut out in the process. But that’s exactly what the Longview Lobos did on Thursday night, amongst the national landscape of ESPN 2. The Lobos were no where near on their game on Thursday, but the Lobos found a way behind a dominating defense to pitch their first shut out over their arch rivals, John Tyler, for the first time since 1977. With the win, the Lobos increase their winning streak to 19 games overall, and win their 3rd in a row over the Lions. Longview’s 42 point margin of victory is also the largest margin of victory ever over a John Tyler team, breaking the previous margin of victory of 35 points. The Lobo defense was no doubt the star of Thursday night, holding the Lions to 77 overall yards and just three first downs. The back to back shut outs marks the first time since 1985 that Longview has pitched back to back shut outs. Haynes King had an incredibly difficult off night, throwing three interceptions on the night. King posted only four interceptions his entire junior season. With the win, the Lobos now turn their eyes east where a show down with the #2 ranked West Monroe Rebels from Louisiana await, following their 24-0 victory on Friday afternoon against the Shreveport Byrd Yellowjackets. West Monroe comes in winners of 27 of their previous 29 contests, with their only two losses coming to Zachary in the 5A State Semi Finals (2017) and the 5A State Championship (2018). West Monroe’s last regular season loss came in 2016 to John Curtis in Independence Stadium. The Lobos and Rebels meet for the first time since 2006, a game that saw the Lobos hold a lead for most of the game until the Rebels scored the game winning touchdown with 30 seconds remaining ending Longview’s 20-game regular season winning streak. Longview’s lone win in the series came in 2005, the Lobos dominated the Rebs from the get go in a 21-0 victory. West Monroe was held to just 151 yards of total offense on the night. West Monroe won the two other contests in the series by a total of 8 points (13-7 in 1959 and 8-6 in 1960). Longview returns to Shreveport for the first time since a 2015 loss to Shreveport Byrd (22-15). Overall, the Lobos are 6-3 all-time at Independence Stadium, with a 5-2 records there under John King. This will be Longview’s 44th all-time contest against Louisiana competition. John King is 9-3 against Louisiana, one forfeit included. The Lobos will be looking to win their 12th non-district game in a row dating back to 2016. In 1940, Beaumont traveled to Longview and headed back south after suffering a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Lobos. In 1946, Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson held the Lobos 85 yards on the night, while piling up 268 yards rushing, as the Jackets rolled to a 21-0 victory over Longview in Port Arthur. In 1956, Longview held Denison to 139 yards but the offense wasn’t there for the Lobos themselves as the Yellowjackets and Lobos battled to a 0-0 tie at Munson Stadium. In 1963, Eddie Armstrong’s 25 yard field goal with 2 minutes to go in the game handed Henderson a 3-0 victory at Lion Stadium over the Lobos. Four turnovers on the night did the damage for Longview, as the Lions managed only 111 total yards on the night. In 1968, Billy Price rushed in from 1 yard out and Roland Whitehurst capped the scoring with a 6 yard run in the third quarter as the Lobos knocked off Lee, 13-6. Tyler Lee’s only score came on an 89 yard punt return in the first quarter. In 1974, Leo McCoy opened the scoring with a 7 yard run, followed by two Henry Williams touchdowns as the Lobos knocked off Vidor at Ivan Croak Field at Pirate Stadium. In 1985, Melvin Davis kicked a 35 yard field goal with 1:30 left in the game at Lobo Stadium, as the Abilene Eagles knocked off Longview, 3-0. The Lobos managed just 173 yards on the night. In 1991, Andre Davis rushed for three touchdowns on the night in Longview’s 20-6 victory over Carrollton Newman Smith at Standridge Stadium. The Lobos held the Spartans to just 164 total yards on the night, but were hammered by 120 yards in penalties. In 1996, Jay Hurst and Fred Talley each rushed for a touchdown, but two missed extra points proved to be costly as the Lake Highlands Wildcats walked away with a 13-12 victory at Lobo Stadium. Jamin Stinson’s 18 yard punt block return with 1:42 left in the game was the game winning tally. In 2003, Longview fell behind 26-14 at halftime against Evangel in Shreveport’s Independence Stadium, before Jerrel Williams took over with three rushing second half touchdowns as the Lobos rolled to a 43-26 victory over the Eagles. Longview racked up 542 total yards on the night but a back and forth feisty affair showed out with 31 penalties and 336 total yards in penalties. In 2013, after falling behind 10-7 to the Lufkin Panthers at a rain soaked Lobo Stadium, Longview took over with a 35 point second quarter. Longview rolled up 490 yards of total off season as Ja’Mycal Hasty tallied three scores on the night in a 55-30 victory over the Panthers.
Mr. P
Longview is gonna have to play a clean game, especially on offense. I love the mustard our defense is showing already.
Lobo1111
I think what happens when you play the same teams every year in non-district, the team and fans get into a lull. I believe playing a team like West Monroe will spark a fire and rejuvenate them to get the urgency up for this game. I think you will see a lot of improvement on offense this week. Though Haynes has struggled throwing the ball somewhat this year he has made up in punting and holding the ball for field goals, that’s what good leadership does. He will be fine, the team will be great by the start of the playoffs. Lobos!
Pack007
It’s never easy playing in Louisiana, but the lobos got to experience some of that at Abe lol. Just a tough atmosphere. WM will be without their Qb against a very good lobo defense too. So, I have to go with lobos by at least 10-14. I honestly hope it’s 90-100. I dislike backwoods West Monroe

LoboFan07
Byrd is not a good football team. But they have two picks already. Keep West Monroe in long yardage situations or get up on them quick and we should be good.
