GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Defense, defense, defense. The story of the season for the defending State Champion Lobos so far has been Longview’s defense. After holding strong in the initial game down in Lufkin after the Lobo offense put them in bad positions, the Lobos followed with back to back shut outs before allowing just a single score in last week’s battle against the #2 ranked Rebels from West Monroe, Louisiana. The only score surrendered in the last 12 quarters of play came in the opening two minutes against the Rebels, after quarterback Haynes King fumbled the ball on the Lobo 16 yard line. The Rebs needed just three plays to punch it in. The score denied another Lobo shut out, which would have been the first back to back to back shut out streak for a Lobo defense since 1980. Still, the Lobo defense held firm the rest fo the night, holding West Monroe to just 152 yards on the night. It’s the third consecutive game the Lobos have held opponents to under 152 yards. The win marked Longview’s 20th victory in a row, dating back to last season’s 16-0 run. The win also marked Longview’s 13th consecutive non-district victory dating back to 2016. West Monroe fell in non-district play for the first time since 2016, and for just the third time in the last 32 games. Now, Longview turns to district play where the red hot Rockwall Yellowjackets come to town. The 3-1 Yellowjackets only loss on the same came in the opening weekend of the season to the three-time defending state champion Highland Park Scots. The Jackets actually had a 17-point lead over the Scots in that contest, before Highland Park came back for the victory. Longview and Rockwall will meet for the 10th time on Friday night, with the Lobos having won 8 of the first 9 contests. Rockwall’s only victory in the series came back in 1931, a playoff meeting, in a 20-6 victory at Jacket Field. Since then, the Lobos have ripped off eight consecutive victories. All but one of those games have been district contests. Five of the seven games have been decided by 10 points or less. Last season, the Lobos put up 604 yards of offense on the Jackets to come from behind in a 42-35 victory. The Lobos trailed by a single score five times in the game, but managed to come back and tie the game all five times before forcing a stop. Longview returns to Lobo Stadium for just the second time this season. The Lobos are 43-1 under head coach John King in district game’s, with the lone loss coming in 2016 to John Tyler 38-24. Longview is 13-2 in district openers under John King, with both losses coming on the road…a 2012 loss at Mesquite and a 2017 loss to Mesquite Horn. It’ll be a huge game for the Lobos and Jackets in determining the 11-6A district champion, in what should be an extremely high scoring affair on Friday night.

Offense must play clean. Defense will do fine, but Rockwall has the best wideout in the country. They'll score points. Our offense must play clean and sustain drives. Control the ball and the clock. Don't get into a shootout.

I have no question this will be the worst game statistically that our defense will have all year. Smith is going to get his yards, it’s just a matter of limiting him as much as possible.

Im glad we’re at home for sure. Rockwall hasn’t had to travel at all this season so far.

Haynes is going to decide the game, to be honest.

This definitely will be the most prolific offense we’ve seen so far as everyone already knows. Rockwalls problem as of late with finishing off Longview is they try to rely all on offense and try to outscore us like the do to a lot of other oppents, but see the problem for Rockwall Friday night will be Longview plays defense and has a really good front seven that’s gonna have Lock running around and getting flushed out all night  which hopefully can interrupt some of his timely  passes with Jackson Smith. Smith is going to get his like stated above,  we have to contain as best as possible and do not let smith behind or secondary. I feel we have the Superior  head coach, and  leaps and bounds better defense, and  hey offense they can be just as lethal when firing on all cylinders and with Haynes settled down. One more thing for the love of god try to run more routes that fit our receivers skill set, why do we run so many fly routes and throw bombs, against the faster corners our receiver don’t seem to get any separation. I know Perry was the goat, but I fill like also we ran better routes to fit him, cross patterns, come backs, post. We’ve got the offense to help defend the title, just have to start clicking. My prediction

Looking at the game stats, it looks like Martin’s offense lost them the game. 5 turnovers last night.

Yeah. Martins QB suks. He’s best at handing the ball off. He lost a fumble last night just trying to set up and throw down field.

Im with you. Haynes king will decide this game for the lobos. Rockwall hasn’t seen a defense anywhere close to Longview yet and it’s gonna show. But as we all know, you only limit them not stop them. As long as king protects the football and doesn’t miss 4 TD throws, I got the Lobos lol... Yall are at home..

Lobos 35

Rockwall 31

Y’all are going to say I’m crazy.   Longview 42 RW 21

I really want to go this route or something similar....something like 49-35.

I dunno....I just think Meredith is really about to take off and he's up against a Rockwall defense that needs alot of work. He ran for 191 vs that WM defensive front. This was also one of my main points coming into this year about not having Kamden....the production that Meredith was gonna put up at RB was gonna make up for a good chunk of what Perry provided as a WR.

I also see Haynes and the WRs/TEs having a good game.

I think we make enough stops on defense for two score game. Jaxon Smith will get his yards but I don't see much happening for anyone else on their offense in this game.

This...plain and simple sums up the game
