GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Bye week is over and it's back to the grind for the defending 6A Division II State Champions. Longview and Mesquite Horn meet for the 13th time this Friday night, heading into the contest in two extremely different situations. The Longview Lobos head to E.H. Hanby Stadium fresh off their lone bye week of the season. The week prior, the Lobos opened 11-6A play with a dominating 49-3 victory over the #14 ranked Rockwall Yellowjackets. Most would not have been shocked at the Longview victory over Rockwall, who won their 9th in a row over the Jackets. But the way the Lobo defense dominated Rockwall was beyond eye popping, as the Jackets were averaging over 50 points a game in non-district. The Mesquite Horn Jaguars head home this week, a week after facing those same Rockwall Yellowjackets...and falling in Rockwall, 45-7. With the loss, the Jags fell to 2-4 on the season, the lone team with a sub-.500 record in district 11-6A. The Lobos and Jags still have it all to play for in district action, as a win for the Jags could easily jump Horn back into the district championship race. Longview, 5-0, heads into Hanby with a 5-0 record and holder of the state's longest winning streak at 21-games. Longview's last loss came back in December of 2017, and the Lobos stand 31-1 in their last 32 contests. Longview also holds a 13-game district winning streak, with the last loss coming...to the Mesquite Horn Jaguars, back on September 22nd, 2017. In Longview's 13-game district win streak, the Lobos have had just 3 games decided within two scores (31-21 vs Rockwall in 2017, 28-19 vs John Tyler in 2017 and 42-35 vs Rockwall in 2018). The Lobos return to Hanby Stadium for the first time since a 2017, 61-3 victory over Mesquite. Previous to that victory, the Lobos had lost three consecutive games in the stadium, including twice in a row to the Jaguars. The Lobos hold an 9-3 overall record inside Hanby. Longview's last victory over Horn in Mesquite came in 2011, a 38-30 back and forth affair. Since becoming head coach in 2004, the Lobos are a perfect 15-0 in games following their bye week..with last season's 50-3 win over the Jaguars being the second largest margin of victory of the entire 2018 football campaign. The Lobos and Jaguars meet for the 13th time in school history, which sits as the 16th most against a single program in Longview's history. The two programs first met in 2004, a 42-14 Lobo victory in a rain soaked Hanby Stadium. Longview jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the series, with Horn's first win not coming until 2012, a 25-17 win at Hanby. The two squads have met three years in a row following Longview's return to 6A, with the Lobos taking two of the three meetings. Longview heads into the game, looking to stay perfect no doubt, but with a win Longview will have clinched their 78th winning season in 110 seasons of Lobo football. In the last 49 years (not counting this season), the Lobos have winning seasons in 45 of them.

I think we can blow them out.

You think??? Lol.

The Lobos have lost the last two meetings in that stadium though.....i guess that’s something 😂😂. However.....I’m still picking the bos in a blowout. Lobos defense is too good this season.

We actually had a three-game losing streak at Hanby (granted 2 of the games were in 2012 then followed up five years later in 2017), before 2017's 61-3 victory over Mesquite.

I was a little surprised that we had a .500 record at Hanby against Horn, before I remembered we played them at Memorial one year.

Overall, we've dominated in that stadium though (9-3).

I am not ready to declare a blowout yet...other than Friday our offense has not been completely fluid.  It has come together over the last two games.  We should win by at least 2 scores or more if our progression continues.

hopefully Meredith will be back by this game.

From what I’m hearing, Merideth out 2 to 3 weeks, due to a deep bruised shoulder.

Whether it’s 2 or 3 weeks, doesn’t matter. Best thing is that his season isn’t over.

Great news on Merideth!!!  Still on cloud nine after watching the defense destroy Rockwall.  Like I said the other day, I've been watching Longview football since 1978 and other than 1980 this is the best defense I've seen.  So proud of our Lobos and I know we still need to improve, but dang when and if we do get it all together.....  LOOK OUT!!!!   GO LOBOS beat Horn!!!!
