ETBU adding Lacrosse in 2020; Hockey is (8-0) so far

Another new sport is being added to the roster at ETBU.

This will be the sixth new sport added at ETBU in the last four years joining men's and women's golf, hockey, bass fishing, and acrobatics and tumbling.

ETBU also posted their 2nd highest enrollment this fall at 1,598.

Good news for the University.

All the NCAA D2 talk has subsided.  Maybe they decided to back off after McMurry University decided to stay put in D3 after applying to D2.

Meanwhile... the ETBU hockey team is (8-0) on the season after double header sweeps of Texas State, University of Texas, DBU, and the Univeristy of North Texas.

They take on TCU this weekend in Fort Worth for a double header then they are headed out to California for some non-conference games Vs. Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, and Long Beach State.

When they come home they have upcoming series Vs. Texas A&M, UTEP, Arkansas, and North Texas.

Not bad for a tiny little school in the woods.

GO TIGERS.

McMurry had gone D2, then after things didn't go well (success wise...going to NCCAA tournaments was about it) and the issues with a conference, etc...it was a better situation to be partnered with Hardin-Simmons right there in Abilene, in the American Southwest Conference. With UT-Tyler moving out of that conference to go D2, it opened the competitive flow up (in the other sports aside from football, UT-Tyler didn't play that)...makes it a "friendly place" to play and get to an NCAA tournament.

I was really good friends with the old AD at LeTourneau University and for years the president at UT-Tyler had been very pointed in saying they were staying in D3 and in the ASC, because "they could dominate the conference" and have opportunities to make runs at national championships.

It had the administration at LeTourneau with their $$ people (Dr. James Beckett and the Joyce Family) pushing them to go to D2...it was days away from happening (the paperwork was done)...then everything in a matter of 1 day was dropped.

It was about 2 years later that when McMurry made their jump to D2.

Around that time, U of New Orleans was going to drop from D1 and Belhaven (in Mississippi) was going to drop from NAIA...both to D3 and the ASC was trying to snag them.

I personally always felt when Centenary (Shreveport) went from D1 to D3, the ASC would have been the best place for them (rather than the SCAC - which is pretty spread out and has the big $$$ of Trinity in it)...with a natural rivalry with ETBU/LETU.
