The demise of 1980s Metal: who is to blame?

You guys have made some good points..........my thoughts seem a tad anticlimactic!

Before I realized that I was late for work, I was going to say:

My theory is that there were too many bad pop bands posing as Metal bands that achieved fame too quickly & on merits other than their quality of Metal. These bands recorded too many proverbial “power ballads” that appealed to non-Metal fans. These bands (Poison, Warrant, Winger, etc.) became the face of Metal, while more talented bands faded into obscurity because they were not “pretty enough”.

People finally caught on to their charade.

I never saw the so-called “Seattle invasion” as a threat to Metal. Just like you could simultaneously listen to the Sex Pistols & The Clash along with Thin Lizzy & Blue Öyster Cult in the late-1970s, you could listen to Nirvana & Pearl Jam along with Skid Row & Badlands. It is all Rock ‘N Roll to me.

It is easier to sit back and let the tube dictate our culture than it is to research our own likes and dislikes.

Yes there are exceptions, but those exceptions are too few to pay the bills.

I blame the inanimate whipping boy, television....:)

I wasn't all bad. I had a lot of fun growing up in the 1980s.

The 1990s-2000s were/are better ??? :ermm:
