Mock East Texas 5A Division II Districts

Recommended Posts

Snapshot numbers are being reported.

Bases on the limited amount of information we have....  we could see anywhere from very little change all the way to wholesale changes for East Texas 5A Division II.

Here is what is being speculated thus far:

1.  No one in EAST TEXAS 4A Div I appears to be moving up.  Now.... there is a caveat to that.  The North 5A District (8-5A) includes portions of the Eastern metroplex... so there is always a chance that a school could be moving up from the metro areas.

2.  Texas High could be dropping from 5A Div II.... but it's not 100%.

3. The North 5A district could see 2 teams move up to Div I:  Royse City and North Forney.  They would likely join the current district with John Tyler, Mesquite, etc.

No one in 9-5A appears to be moving up or down.

So what does UIL do... if in fact Texas High moves down and RC and NF move up?

This could mix things up between 8-5A and 9-5A to ATTEMPT to make a more geographically friendly map for Texas High..... and ultimately MP.   But it could add to travel miseries for Nac, Marshall, Hallsville, and PT.

--------

With North Forney and RC likely moving up to D-1....  and if Texas High was to drop to D-2... that perfectly creates two 8 team 5A districts in East Texas.  BUT....not knowing if there are any 4A-D1 Eastern DFW schools moving up to 5A  throws a monkey wrench into that.

8-5A
Texas High
Ennis
Corsicana
Greenville
Sulphur Springs
Forney
Kaufman
Terrell

9-5A
Marshall
Hallsville
Pine Tree
Whitehouse
Jacksonville
Nacogdoches
Lindale
Mount Pleasant

The Problem........

Those Texarkana to Corsicana (206 miles) and Ennis (225 miles) trips are brutal to think about.

UIL could end up dropping Corsi and Ennis from that district and move MP back up to the I-30 corridor.

Ennis and Corsi could go down I-35 or join a southern DFW district.

Or they could end up in East Texas' south district again.....slightly altered from the one back in 2015-ish

8-5A
Texas High
Mount Pleasant
Greenville
Sulphur Springs
Forney
Kaufman
Terrell
Lindale*

*LINDALE could go either way........

9-5A
Marshall
Ennis
Corsicana
Hallsville
Pine Tree
Whitehouse
Jacksonville
Lindale*

Marshall to Ennis (155 miles).  Marshall to Corsicana (173 miles).
Nacogdoches to Ennis (178 miles).  Nacogdoches to Corsicana (156 miles)

---------

Now...if Texas High stays in 5A-Div I...... I'd be willing to bet we see very little changes.  Maybe none.

8-5A
Ennis
Corsicana
Greenville
Sulphur Springs
Forney
Kaufman
Terrell

9-5A
Marshall
Hallsville
Pine Tree
Whitehouse
Jacksonville
Nacogdoches
Lindale
Mount Pleasant

Would the UIL do this??

If Forney opts to go with NF and RC

Would they split the district NE and NW

1.Nac

2.Jax

3.WH

4.Cana

5.Ennis

6.Kaufman

7.Terrell

The Nac/Cana dynamic would be interesting!!

Other District being

1.Marshall

2.MP

3.Hallsville

4.TH

5.PT

6.SS

7.Greenville

8.Lindale

It's possible!

But I can't imagine Forney opting up.... they aren't even competing in their D2 district..... moving up to D1 would be even worse for them IMHO.

Districts shouldn't make decisions like that to save on travel expenses.  You do what's best for your students.... which means leaving them in D2.

JMHO.

I agree with you, but I have a lot of contacts in Forney and North Forney and there is a lot of talk that they are tied to each other. I guess we will see what they do.

It would be a shame IMHO do it.... but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a school district make a boneheaded decision based mostly on money.

TBH.... all this hinges on what number Texas High turned in.  If they don't drop I don't think we see much change for Div II.  But that 5A Div I district explodes with RC, NF, and possibly Longview all moving into the neighborhood.

Numbers are hard to find this year.  I still don't even know what Marshall turned in .

I agree.

If they are struggling against schools quite a bit smaller than them in Div II....... then being a little fish in Div I makes absolutely no sense.  Esp when you consider those big fish could be Longview, JT, and company.

Here is some more info on teams moving into or out of 5A Div II that could affect East Texas

Cleburne, Midlothian, and Red Oak are all projected to move up to D1.  The trouble is...  Cle and Mid are in district 5.... which is a MASSIVE 9 team district that spreads from Aledo, to Waco, to Seguin (San Antonio).  Meanwhile Red Oak is in an 8 team DISD district (District 6).

Texas High seems to be a Wildcard moving down to 5A-D2

But Kaufman is likely to drop to 4A-D1. Crandall is probably moving up to 5A-D2

Could something like this be possible?

8-5A
Texas High
Sulphur Springs
Marshall
Hallsville
Pine Tree
Lindale
Mount Pleasant
Greenville

9-5A
Nacogdoches
Whitehouse
Jacksonville
Forney
Terrell
Crandall
Ennis
Corsicana

There is a possibility that Corsicana and Ennis could go to the DISD district that Red Oak is Vacating... OR to that massive Aledo district..... then send Greenville and Sulphur Springs to DFW D2 districts.... and you could build a massive East Texas D-2 district:

Texas High
Mount Pleasant
Marshall
Hallsville
Pine Tree
Lindale
Jacksonville
Whitehouse
Nacogdoches

That actually looks kinda fun...lol.

Kaufman turned in 1189.. 5A cut off was 1150 last time. You think it will change that much?

It’ll be close.

Is there any precedent for a 9 team district

There are several 9 team districts scattered around the state in 5A right now.  I’d have to look... but probably a few for 6A too.

I know there are quite a few of them. Districts 12-15 in 6A division 1 are all 9 team districts.District 28 6A D1 is actually a 10 team district full of teams in San Antonio

District 3 5A D1 is a 9 team as is district 13 5A D1 which is also full of teams in San Antonio. 16 5A D1 is a 10 team district in the Brownsville area

Without writing a book, there are many more 9 team districts out there. Seems to be much more common now than say 20 years ago where a towns like Frisco weren't building 10 high schools (with 2 new additional high schools in the works)

Believe the 5A D2 district with Greenville,  Ennis, SS, Royse City, etc. is a 9 team district

Is Sherman and Denison in the mix for a 5A D2 district? Apologize if this isn't relevant. Thinking about things we've seen in the past

Have you seen Dallas area #'s?? I would be shocked to see Kaufman come down and Crandall go up. Kaufman has never been smaller than Crandall!!
