Fivehead
I had previously submitted a post about Texas secession, for which I took a thorough beating from some SDC members. In light of the current economic condition of the good old USA, and states such as the Peoples Republic of California begging for a federal bailout, what do you kids think about taking our toys and leaving NOW? It's beginning to look better all the time.

Straw
No good American would ever "cut and run" ... correct ??? I choose to stay & fight should the proverbial sky ever fall... Incorrect sir! Seceding takes more courage than most can muster. It would be an honor to be apart of it. It does not mean we do not love America but just we can do better! RufusJones
If we don't secede. Then a revolution may be nessesary. The liberals have lied and cheated their way into power. We can't vote them out because they have become experts at stealing elections. The time has come for honest and good people to stand up!

Fivehead
Crockett, Travis, Houston, et al had the courage to leave a country they felt was headed in the wrong direction and fight to establish a republic here in Texas. They are celebrated as heroes. How would our secession be any less heroic?

I am an AMERICAN more than I am a TEXAN. I don't want to be forced at gun point to attend hy-skewl-footbawl games in the new country, so I will stay on the American side !!!! :whome: The America of 2008 bears precious little resemblance to the America envisioned by our founding fathers. It bears only slight resemblance to the America of the '50's I was born into. The America of 2008 is far closer to the old Soviet Union than the America of my birth. This country, in case you forgot, was founded by people who OVERTHREW the government they were living under. It was their original intent that our government be peacefully overthrown every few years through the process of elections. Their idea was that ordinary citizens would step forward to serve temporarily and then retreat back to their homes to continue their lives. They did not envision the entrenched lifetime politicians of today who care very little about the well-being of our citizens and very much about accumulating personal power. This is not MY America. This is not the America of my parents and grandparents. This is a feminized, socialized group of greedy cowards with nary a shred of decency or character. I think our greatest best hope is to cut all the dead weight that is the USA and go forward as a Republic of our own. We would instantly become the 14th richest nation on earth, with a balanced budget and abundance of natural resources. The federal tax dollars that flow out would stop immediately, as would the tiny fraction of our own money that we get back from these leeches. The result would be an immediate budget surplus, and an import/export ratio heavily weighted in our favor. To Hell with California, Florida, New York and all the other drains on our economy. You want to stay on the American side? Stay and drown in a sea of red ink. Stay until the Socialists rip away the last shred of your independence and individuality. I'll look across the Red River and wave at you from behind the wheel of my pickup as you pedal by on your government approved bicycle.

You guys would be nothing without your cute little labels, would you? Pacifist . . . that is comical. You guys enjoy your Chicken Little logic ... I still believe in America ... this great country has rallied from lower points than the one we live in now. I'll look across the Red River and wave at you You can see Oregon form the banks of the Red River ??? :ermm:
applebutter
WOW, using liberal talking points now !! :D ^ Well, you guys follow your conscience ... count me out ... I am an AMERICAN more than I am a TEXAN. I don't want to be forced at gun point to attend hy-skewl-footbawl games in the new country, so I will stay on the American side !!!! :whome: This is actually a question that I've considered at length. Not secession, but American or Texan first. When I was really young, I remember hearing that both Washington and Jefferson considered themselved Virginians first, then Americans. My teacher told me that nowadays, it just doesn't make any sense to put your state first, and dismissed it out of hand. I grew up in Texas, most of the people I love are in Texas. Texas doesn't have nearly as many issues as the rest of the country. I'm much more likely to meet someone I agree with on faith, politics, asthetics, athletics, economics, foreign policy... pretty much anything, than I am in New York or Washington state. I am a Texan first. Then an American. But I am an American. I wouldn't agree to secede just because large parts of the country have temporarily lost their friggen minds. My father and his brother fought for this country. They were fighting for Texas, but they were fighting for Nebraska and Ohio too. I have ancestors who died fighting the British, and I'm not quite ready to admit that it's not still the best game in the world. Wanting to secede because you lose politically, even to a waste of flesh like Obama, is a lot like threatening to move to France.
