He will be 101 years old in December. He is a War World 2 veteran. He still lives alone. He’s able to drive. Hearing is as good as a 20 year old. I love to hear his stories and he still gets emotional about his friends that didn’t make it home as if it happened yesterday. He’s name is John Kozlowski. Man, that's a great man right there!! Much respect to him!! He was part of that GREAT GENERATION. And the military was a lot different back then...they were real men (and women) serving back then. Northeast of Balad, camp anaconda was its name at the time. Yep!! Ole Anacanda...been there. We moved around ALOT. Did primarily convoy escorts/security. "Visited" lots of FOB's all over the country. Mainly escorted convoys on MSR Tampa primarily, but all over though. Probably stayed the longest in one spot at Talil (not far from Nasiriyah)...also Camp Cedar was nearby. Me & my unit was there in the beginning in '03...staged at the Kuwait-Iraq border...moved up as the invasion took place. Opsec no longer applies I guess, lol. JBizzle
Thanks to all the veterans and their families! I appreciate your service so much! As for me, I was in the Navy 1999-2008, spent 4 years on the USS Nimitz. It was an honor to serve, and I don't even know how to respond when people thank me. I had it easy compared to so many. Thanks guys!

Yeah, we rotated a lot but we mostly did area security and convoys. We guarded the PMOI, people that fled from Iran. It was one of Saddam's small armys. It was crazy of everything they had too. The women were the leaders.
upullinmychain
For those that I cherish, I will do evil things that maybe with grace, I'll be forgiven. Herd the stories of my grandfather's, the stories of my uncle's, lived to tell my own... Again if you have to pick up arms against an enemy and be willing to sacrifice everything including your soul, you should be shown the respect of warriors, whether it be pushing buttons, jumping in, humping pack or going stage 5 from the cat. VETERAN, means a person most likely saw things or did things that may still keep him/her awake at night, years later.. The price each paid is different for the individual but each paid a price.. For my brother's who are no longer with us, I will always raise a glass in toast... Chain out...

upullinmychain
Noticed growing up that the gentleman that fit in war 2, had zero tolerance for bs, quick short fuse when they encountered it. My granddad and great uncle's were very quick to put things into.... Perspective.. Sometimes with their tone, sometimes with their foot..
