Final: Greenville 28, Terrell 16. GVL is now 4-2 on the season, and 3-1 in district. Coupled with Corsicana getting run out of Royse City tonight, that Bulldogs vs Lions game next week may actually have some stakes for once.

Usually competitive between these two teams. Looking forward to a good game.

Greenville working on breaking that playoff drought!

Great to see!!!

Do Greenville and RC consider each other their main rival? Makes sense location wise. Should be a good game!

I want RC to be our main rivals, but as they say, it's not a rivalry until both teams win. We haven't held up our end yet in that regard. I'd say our chief rival has been Sulphur Springs. And Terrell when they're on the schedule.

Thanks, Mavchamp. By my count, it looks like it'll take two more wins to claim a spot in the Big Dance, with Royse City, Sulphur Springs, Forney, and Ennis left to play.

East Texas 5A Week 7 Update

8-5A Div II Scores
Royse City beat Corsicana 27-0
Greenville beat Terrell 28-16
Ennis beat Sulphur Springs 42-14
North Forney beat Kaufman 48-20
Forney- BYE

Standings
Ennis (5-0) (6-1)
Royse City (3-1) (5-1)
Corsicana (4-1) (5-2)
Greenville (3-1) (4-2)
North Forney (2-3)(4-3)
Sulphur Springs (1-3) (1-5)
Forney (1-3) (2-4)
Terrell (1-4) (1-6)
Kaufman (0-4) (0-6)

Royse City got the upset of the night with their shocking win over defending district champion Corsicana 27-0.  The win puts the Bulldogs in second place with the tie breaker over the Tigers.  This also put Ennis all alone in first place as the lone undefeated team in the district.  Greenville got a big win to solidify their playoff hopes a little more.  The Lions are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003 (?).  They still have Ennis and RC left on their schedule.  But they also still have SS and Forney remaining as well.  The remainder of the district is in pretty bad shape as for making the playoffs unless NF was to get hot at the end of the season, but they still have RC on their schedule.  The Ennis/Corsi game still looms large....could make the race very interesting if Corsi got the win.  Tri champs?  Stay tuned!

----------

9-5A Div II Scores
Pine Tree beat Jacksonville 42-25
Marshall beat Mount Pleasant 40-21
Lindale beat Hallsville 34-7
Whitehouse beat Nacogdoches 19-14

Standings
Pine Tree (3-0) (4-2)
Whitehouse (3-0) (4-2)
Marshall (3-0) (3-3)
Lindale (2-1) (4-2)
Nacogdoches (1-2) (1-5)
Hallsville (0-3) (2-4)
Mt. Pleasant (0-3) (2-4)
Jacksonville (0-3) (1-5)

Whitehouse got the win of the night with their victory over Nac.  Many preseason predictions had the Wildcats struggling with a new QB, this season and Nac as district title contender.  But WH finds themselves tied at the top of the standings, while Nac is on the verge of elimination.  Pine Tree's offense continues to hum with their convincing win over Jacksonville.  Marshall's offense has found its groove and ran passed Mount Pleasant.  With three teams sitting at (3-0) and only 4 weeks remaining.... the race down the stretch should be a good one.  Lindale cannot be ignored as they have had two easy wins after their loss to Marshall.  The Eagles are looking to jump into the district title talk too.... they will have their chance in the coming weeks!  Nac is still alive for the playoffs, but games Vs. PT and Marshall still loom on their schedule.  They need some wins to keep hope alive.  Meanwhile...Hallsville, MP, and Jacksonville are all winless in district.  They are still alive....barely.... but another loss by any of them puts them in dire straits of not making the postseason.

----------

7-5A Div I Scores
John Tyler beat West Mesquite 39-36
Mesquite Poteet beat Texas High 55-10
McKinney North beat Wylie East 69-7
Sherman- BYE

Standings
McKinney North (3-0) (6-1)
John Tyler (3-0) (3-4)
Mesquite Poteet (2-0) (3-3)
West Mesquite (1-1) (1-5)
Sherman (0-2) (3-2)
Texas High (0-3) (3-4)
Wylie East (0-3) (2-5)

McKinney North continues to impress with their offensive output per week.  Setting up a monster game with JT in two weeks.  Meanwhile the Lions had to battle it out tooth and nail Vs. West Mesquite.  Meanwhile.... Poteet has quietly put together a little winning streak to put themselves at the top of the standings with MN and JT.  Sherman, Texas High, and Wylie East are all still alive for the post season...but barely.  They need some wins.... the question for all of them is..... from whom?

----------

8-5A Div I Scores
Lufkin beat College Station 31-21
Magnolia West beat Caney Creek 40-15
Tomball beat Waller 30-21
Magnolia beat Willis 43-13

Standings
Lufkin (3-0) (5-1)
Magnolia West (3-0) (4-2)
College Station (2-1) (4-2)

Magnolia (2-1) (4-2)
Tomball (2-1) (3-3)
WIllis (0-3) (1-5)
Caney Creek (0-3) (1-5)
Waller (0-3) (0-5)

Lufkin flexed their muscle against College Station to remain in first place and to send the Cougars into a messy three way  tie for third place.  Meanwhile LP and Magnolia West remain unbeaten in district play.  Magnolia and Tomball remain in the thick of things as far as the playoffs go.  The rest of the district remains winless.  Lufkin and Magnolia West will face off in two weeks in what may be for the district championship.  The playoff race looks to be a good one coming down to the wire.

Barring some unforeseen upsets along the way... and not predicting district title games....here is what things MIGHT look like IF the playoffs started today......

West Mesquite Vs. Lufkin/Magnolia West (District champion)
Mesquite Poteet Vs Lufkin/Magnolia West (District runner-up)
College Station Vs. John Tyler Vs. McKinney North (District runner-up)
Magnolia/Tomball Vs. John Tyler/Mckinney North (District champion)

Poteet is the monkeywrench in all this.... if they upset JT or McNorth, things get real messy.  If they don't, it's just a matter of knowing who the champ is from that district.  WM and Poteet look to be the best bets for the #3 and #4 positions.  Lufkin is the favorite for their district, but they still have a big game pending with Mag West.  Tough call for the 3/4 slots in their district... so I listed both.

----------

Lamar Consolidated/Katy Paetow (4th place) Vs.  Marshall/PT (District champion)
Lamar Consolidated/Katy Paetow (3rd place) Vs. Marshall/PT (District runner up)
Lindale/Whitehouse (third place) Vs. A&M Consolidated/Huntsville (District runner up)
Lindale/Whitehouse (fourth place) Vs. A&M Consolidated/Huntsville (District champion)

Lindale is the biggest wildcard in the 9-5A race.  Because if they upset PT or WH.... things get interesting.  If Marshall gets beat by WH things get interesting... and the PT/WH game is looming big too.  Still a lot of variables that could complicate this things.  But ATM... the 4 teams headed to the playoffs appear to be PT, WH, Marsh, and Lindale.  The order remains to be seen.   District 10 is anyone's guess... there are still three undefeated teams in the district with Katy P (6-0), Lamar Cons (5-0), and AMC (5-0).  Huntsville cannot be overlooked at (4-2).  Those are the four most likely to make the playoffs barring some serious upsets.  IMHO AMC and Huntville are still the faves for the district title.... with AMC getting the nod.  Katy P and Lamar will likely battle it out for the 3/4 slots....but Katy could upset Huntsville.... that could be worth watching for.  Stay tuned.

----------

Frisco Reedy/Braswell Vs. Ennis
Denison/Lovejoy (3rd place) Vs. Royse City
Corsicana Vs Denison/Lovejoy (2nd place)
Greenville Vs Frisco

Corsicana is the wildcard here if they beat Ennis.  Things get interesting.  Greenville slipping up could cost them a playoff date Vs. (7-0) Frisco.  Denison and Lovejoy face off in two weeks...which will clear some things up.... just as the Corsi/Ennis game will on the same night.   The Reddy/Braswell game next week will likely determine the #4 slot.

Clear as mud?

McKinney North Vs. West Mesquite-  GOTW for the district.  Either team winning wouldn't be a shock.  Want to say MN's offense will get them the win.  But WM's defense is stingy.  Going to go with MN to get up a battle with JT in 2 weeks.

Mesquite Poteet Vs. Wylie East-  Poteet by a lot.

Sherman Vs. Texas High-   WInner keeps their dim playoff chances alive for another week.  Loser is in trouble.  I take the Tigers for the home win.

John Tyler- BYE

Lufkin Vs. Tomball- LP by as many as they desire

Waller Vs. Magnolia West  West by a landslide

Magnolia Vs. College Station- CS gets back into the win column

WIllis Vs. Caney Creek- Caney Creek- Toss a coin.  Who knows.

Forney Vs.Ennis- Ennis has Corsicana coming up.... they win easy this week.

Terrell Vs. Kafuman-   Another coin toss.  Terrell get the win.

Royce City Vs. Greenville-   RC has district title aspirations.  Greenville looking for their first playoff birth in almost 20 years.  Bulldogs get the win.

Sulphur Springs Vs. Corsicana-   Gonna be ugly for SS.  Tigers win comfortably

North Forney- BYE

Marshall Vs. Jacksonville-  Close game at the half.  Marshall pulls away for a double digit win in the second half.

Lindale Vs. Whitehouse- Lindale gives WH their first loss in district play.  Eagles want a piece of the district title.

Hallsville vs. Mount Pleasant-  MP gets their first district win.

Pine Tree Vs. Nacogdoches- PT cruising right now.

AMC is leading Lamar Consolidated 28-0 at the half.

No shock there.  I think Lamar loses to Huntsville.... and probably Katy Pat as well.

Whoever wins the Lamar/Katy Pat game will likely be (8-2) and travel to the 9-5A district runner up.  Whoever losses that game will come to East Texas to face the 9-5A champion.

Wow, this is going to be tough, and there’s a good chance it may play out like this. ?, The way you have them positioned, doesn’t have any  bearings on the second round, or do it?

Yea, i have every team set up like it would be on a bracket...at least i tried to do it that way. If JT does become the runner up, they could play Hp in the second round. I guess that’s what you’re asking? There may be a few changes though. Tomball May get in the playoffs instead of magnolia again. Legacy instead of Samuell. Also, Thigh or Sherman may get in instead of West mesquite. JT may win district again too and play Lancaster in second round. Never know. We still have 4 more games left this season.

Ok, I was thinking JT was 3 seat, but you have CS in the 3 seat, with MW finishing ahead of CS.

Honestly RC doesn't see this as an upset, they expected to win. They did not play well the week before at Ennis and it would have likely taken their very best error free football to beat Ennis.  That loss ended an 8 game winning streak that went back to last year.  RC missed the playoffs on tie breakers last year after finishing the season with 4 straight victories, they started this year with 4 straight victories before getting dropped by a good Ennis team.  Can't wait to see RC battle Greenville this week. It should be an outstanding game, Greenville has, and always has had athletes, I think they found a coach that is reaching the kids.  Awesome for them.

I'd consider beating the unbeaten (in district) defending 8-5A champion an upset..... esp a week after losing by 17 to Ennis.  AND when you're beating a perennial power when you have very little history of success.

JMHO.

Hoping the best for RC!  But Ennis and Corsi are the ones with pedigree in this district it seems

It's going to be interesting to see how 9-5A shakes out this week.

Either things are going to start solidifying for the district favorites, or things could get real murky in a hurry.

Lindale Vs. Whitehouse-  IMHO..... this is the wildcard game of the week.  WH is unbeaten with PT and Marshall, but Lindale has proven they can play with anyone.  A WH win will likely keep them atop the district with PT and Marshall barring any upsets in those games.  BUT.... a Lindale win puts PT and Marshall at the top with Lindale and having the tie-breaker over WH.  That could make the final weeks of PT/WH, Marshall/WH, and Marsh/PT VERY interesting.  District title implications all over the place for all four teams.

Pine Tree Vs. Nacogdoches- Another wildcard game of sorts.  A PT win will likely keep them in first place with Marshall and/or WH unless Lindale gets the upset.  It also all but eliminates the Dragons.  BUT.... a Nac win not only keeps the Dragons alive, but throws a monkey wrench into a lot of plans.  A Nac win over PT likely puts Marshall and WH at the top of the district.  Nac and Marshall tangle next week... and then Marshall/WH face off in a critical game.  PT is the favorite in this one.... but the Pirates don't have a history of winning games they should.  Then again... neither does Nac.

Marshall Vs. Jacksonville-  This is a big game for Marshall and Jax for different reasons.  The Mavericks are looking to position themselves for their third district championship in a row; fourth in five seasons.  Jacksonville is fighting for their playoff lives... and desperate teams are scary to play.  Especially when their stadium has the history of being tough on visiting teams like the Tomato Bowl.  No easy game here.  But a Marshall win keeps them in first place and practically clinches a playoff berth.  But a Jax win keeps the Tribe alive and puts the Mavs' celebration on hold for another day.

Hallsville Vs. Mount Pleasant-  The winner of this game keeps their dim playoff hopes alive another week.  Whoever loses this game can start thinking about basketball season.  The winner will avoid the cellar.  MP is likely the favorite in this game.  The Tigers have talent on the field.... it's just a question of do they have ENOUGH DEPTH on the field to overcome a Hallsville team that is struggling to find an offensive identity.

-------------

Fun games this week.... I'll be at the Tomato Bowl.... but that WH/Lindale game sure looks like a fun one.  I think the PT/Nac one will be entertaining as well.

If either Lovejoy or Denison wins out they win the district.  Frisco isn't exactly dominating and 7-5A D2 teams 1-5 are all evenly matched.

Frisco beat Braswell by 5 (Frisco has 2 wins against two other top teams 2-0)

Lovejoy lost to Braswell by 8 (in triple OT) (Braswell lost to Frisco and beat Lovejoy 1-1 and points)

Frisco beat Reedy by 4 (Reedy has 2 losses against Frisco and Lovejoy and 1 win  against Princeton 2-1)

Lovejoy beat Reedy by 1 (Lovejoy has a win over Reedy and Loss to Braswell 1-1)

Reedy beat Denison by 3 (Denison has no wins over the other top teams 0-1)

Remaining Schedule:

Frisco has Denison,  Bye, Frisco Memorial and Lovejoy (2 contenders)

Reedy has Braswell, Lebanon Trail, Bye and Princeton (probably easiest schedule, but already has to losses by a total of 5 points)

Braswell has Reedy,  Princeton,  Lake Dallas, Denison (2 contenders and no Bye)

Lovejoy has Princeton, Lake Dallas, Denison and Frisco (2 contenders back-to-back and no Bye)

Denison has Frisco, Frisco Memorial, Lovejoy and Braswell (3 contenders and no Bye)

Denison has the toughest remaining schedule and Reedy has the easiest.  A few non-playoff teams are in the spoiler role for whoever looks past them.
